buying scrap bags
I just received my scrap bag Moda orders from Fabric.com - the colors are great but be warned...many are selvedge pieces and makes them 2 inches and some smaller. they are state most are 2 1/2 inch which they are...but they many have [h=2]selvedges so they are smaller. still a good deal though[/h]
I am finding most after I started to cut them are 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. Love the colors though...the fabric is really nice.
I wondered about that I have not been brave enough to order them.. thanks for sharing

I just recently saw a quilt using the selvage. I have never attempted this. I usually don't like scrap quilts.
In one bag after cutting I ended up with 26 - 2 inch and 6 - 1/2 inch strips - cost was 10.00 - on sale every one was a different fabric from the same line so they all match.
I cut off the selvages and threw those out...I know some people use them but that is one piece I don't
I just finished cutting my second bag and got 36 - 2 inch strips out of that one. all dark blue fabrics and a few black fabric strips - all match. Now to figure out what to make... ; )
I ordered two bags also. Haven't cut into mine as of yet but I most assuredly will find a project for them soon enough. I did expect some selvages as I had seen others post about that.
I am sure you will find a beautiful project to make with your strips. Happy quilting. |
Zinda while I know you mentioned you do not usually like scrap quilts I wanted to share this link with you just in case you have not seen it yet. Many of the board members have made some of the most beautiful scrap quilts.
I hope you enjoy the show. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t135936.html

The best scrap bags I ever ordered online were the "Stripper's Delight" bags from eQuilter.com. I needed as many completely different fabrics as possible for a scrappy strip quilt. I was just a beginner and did not have much of a stash or scrap system at the time. (THAT quickly changed :D !). So I ordered this 5-Pound Bag of Fabric strips:
http://www.equilter.com/product/5981...-fabric-strips I ordered two of these at different times & was really happy with the variety. They are strips of different widths/sizes and I used some of them for a crochet basket project also. I used my Go Baby to make cleanly cut 2.5" strips, 2" blocks, or even small tumblers & bricks. There were some *very* skinny strips (1" or less) that I couldn't use, but not too many. I would definitely order one again just because scraps are a really fun grab bag -- full of fabrics you would never have bought yourself, but are perfect for scrappy quilting. (I really loved the Asian fabric scraps with gold thread in them!) |
