Calculating yardage for quilt pattern
Is there a software program or a calculator that can help me figure out yardage for a pattern I've drawn for a quilt I want to make? I have 1 yd each of 5 different fabrics. Thanks, Stitch124

the only program that I know of that will let you both design your own blocks and provide you with approximate yardage is EQ (electronic quilt)

Try this.

I use paper, pencil and an ordinary calculator.

I usually just figure out the number of square inches/fabric in the design and then calculate the yardage based on that. Add a bit for a 'fudge factor'.
|
I usually draw it out and calculate it myself with a regular calculator. Come to think of it, I do have a fabric calculator somewhere that I've never used!
|
Often I will draw it out on graph paper. That way I know sizes of pieces that make up each block. Then I can figure out best way to cut those shapes for both ease of cutting and best use of fabric. Because I've usually done some of the same shapes before, I can go back in my notebook for how many of that size will be in a WOF strip. Then can figure number of strips needed.

I do most of those things, draw it out on graph paper then calculate with my calculator. It's cheaper that way!

Mostly I draw it out on graph paper, unless it's very easy, such as squares.
Then I use my brain and paper and pencil to calculate, sometimes using calculator . Funny thing is, my son bought me a quilt calculator and I hardly ever use it! |
After reading the responses - I realized that many use the "software" that is their brain/thinking ability!
