Calender towels
Can anyone help me figure out what to do with old cloth calender towels. My mom just passed away in August and going thru things I find she has calender towels as far back as the 60's. My children remember them growing up and actually someone bought her one every christmas. Since they are sentimental to all of us I would like to do something with them other than just hand them out. Any suggestions????

My friend that was in her 90's made quilts out of them. She advertised in a free publication and added to her stash and was able to make 6 or 8 quilts out of the calender towels. Since they were not all the same size she had to add borders to some of the towels to make them the same size. They turned out really nice.

I use mine. Once washed they are perfect dish towels and wonderful for wiping glass cleaner off windows. Throw out your worn out terrycloth and use them!

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I like everyone's ideas about making a quilt out of them. If you have some left over or some with some stains which won't come out you could make really cute house slippers and guest slippers out of them. there was a great flickr post I found the other day on the topic. *searching*
here's the flickr pic with link to her blog and instructions on how to make them. It's off topic, but if your mother was an avid baker or loved to cook I saw a great idea for transforming handwritten recipe cards into tea towels. It's also a nice way of remembering someone and very useful as well. Here's the link if you're interested: http://blog.spoonflower.com/2012/07/...ea-towels.html |
How about a table runner, maybe a friendship braid, that would be fairly large pieces, and black sashing....

My DDIL had some dish towels that my DMIL embroidered that were stained and she hated to throw them away so I made her a table cloth out of them and it turned out really cute.

How about making some potholders? Then you could share with all your kids. Sorry about the loss of your Mother. I lost my Momma over 17 years ago & I still miss her. God Bless you.

Depending on how many in your family, maybe a pillow for each?
