"Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage"

Hi everyone, Is anyone else doing or have done this pattern? I just bought all my thread for it. I am so excited to get started on it. It's called "Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage" by Crabapple Hill Pattern and I just fell in love with it. I like to do hand embroidery, love monochromatic quilts, so this was made for me. I'm not that crazy about Halloween but I think this will be fun. It's not a new pattern. You can see it here: http://www.crabapplehillstudio.com/i...s-cottage.html And I get to play with crayons!!!! I hope to get started on it pretty soon. Redoing my quilt room right now. Waiting for cooler weather.

That looks like fun and the detail is wonderful! I don't do Halloween myself, but the quilt is really special. Have fun!

I love the pattern and although it suggests Halloween, it could also suggest a Harry Potter theme.

I bought this and the supplies to make it but I got caught up in a Diamonds Jubilee bargello and don't want to add another project just yet . I'm thinking it will be a perfect project for football season....as I like to have things to do with my hands while I watch /listen to games. All Crabapple Studios Designs are fantastic. What a talented gal!

I have to agree with Ladyjanedoe........it will probably be cooler weather before I start this. It will put me in the mood more so than this heat! I have been picking out fabrics and think I will add a little bling to it. I am just gonna have fun with it. Like maybe some black crystals here and there in the spider web........anybody got any more ideas?

I have the pattern. I am planning on doing it soon. But I am adding applique in place of the crayons. I will keep to the tans and browns. I really do like the pattern. I have made many Crabapple hill patterns. Luann

I LOVE anything that has embroidery in it BUT, I need some color in this quilt. Has anyone done this quilt or can share some tips as to how I can Haloween this up with more color while not taking away from the embroidery?? I love the ideal with about adding some crystals but what would the applique look like??? Help!

I did all the embroidering last summer and sent it to the LA this summer. It is sooooo much fun to do. The embroidery designs are so cute (giggle cute). The crayon coloring was also fun. The key to making the coloring effective is to first heavily color with your white crayon and then come back with the colors she recommends. The first block, I was a more tentative colorer, and it doesn't have as much tint as the other blocks. I took the color cover to the printers and enlarged it so I could more easily see the coloring--that helped a lot. Her new halloween patterns went on sale yesterday and I've ordered them also. The biggest challenge was the birds on top. I would recommend using your lighest neutrals on the blocks where the crow feet are--it's difficult to trace thru the seams. I am a real Halloween buff and this is one of my favorite quilts.

Thanks, dottiequilts for all the tips. It will be a while before I get to it but the minute I saw it I knew it would be fun. I have never worked with crayons. Great tip on having it enlarged. Have to check on the new patterns. Never have done a Halloween quilt but this one does look like so much fun and I love to hand embroidery. Did you use all the floss that was called for in the patterns? Do you mind if I get stuck or something if I call on you for help?
