Calling all bowtuckers!!
 

Im one of the few who havent tried making a bowtuck, but I am curious for those who have...How many pattern pieces are there to this pattern and how many different kinds of fusible does it call for.??

I am actually working on a bag from a McCalls pattern #6045, good Lord, this is a challenge...and their instructions are very confusing. There are like 13 pieces, 3 different fabrics and calls for 3 different fusibles. Im NOT using three different fusbiles. I will let you know how it turns out. HA

only 1 fusible (I used regular cotton batting and spray adhesive) 5 or six pieces or so.

I find McCalls purse patterns very difficult. I made one after making a few purses by the maker of the bowtuck. I am pretty sure the bowtucks only calls for fusible fleece. If I remember correctly the bowtucks takes four fabrics. One for main, one for bottom, one for lining and one for pockets.

I just looked up the pattern you were making because number sounded familiar and it was the same purse that I made for my sister. To much cutting different angles. I like to use my rotary cutter and ruler. Good luck as this one did take some time and patience to figure out what the directions were talking about. Bow tucks = much easier :)

I just used regular batting in mine after I used a fusible in the first one I made.

I thought at first the instructions for the bow tucks were very windy but just go with it and then it became a breeze. I used 1 kind of fusible fleece and I have used 2 different fabrics and also 4 depending on what you like.

I found them much easier to understand than most purse patterns.

I recently bought the BowTucks pattern but haven't made it yet. I have made purses for years so was pleased to read this post. Looking forward to making one in the near future...after I finish the projects ahead of it...HA! Don't like those UFO's sitting around staring at me...and they do!

I too have used 4 fabrics but like using only 2 better. I do bottom and lining with one and top and pockets with the other. Compared to McCalls this pattern is a breeze. If you're expecting pattern pieces in the Bow Tuck there isn't any. It's just measurements and instructions. I only use the 987F for the fusible. Works great.

The Bow Tucks pattern is VERY easy to make. I use 987F and Decor Bond (both can be bought at Joanns) in all my purses. It gives it a nice, sturdy finish and the bag doesn't flop when you sit it down. It depends on the look you want. I don't like flimsy looking bags and these two products give it a more professional look. You iron the Decor Bond onto the pieces first and then lay the 987F on top of the Decor Bond, use a piece of muslin as a pressing cloth, and iron it on.
