Can’t replace the foot holder on Janome 7700

I’ve been using the dual feed foot on my 7700 for quite a while, and yesterday took it off (which seemed rather fiddly, but I did manage it) and went to put the foot holder back on. But there’s no way the screw that holds it in place will go back, between the presser bar and the metal looped bar to the left of it (sorry, don’t know the name of the latter). The space between the two just isn’t big enough to be able to get the screw into position. I’m wondering if one of the bars has got bent out of place, though they both look straight. However, I did have a nasty moment while sewing recently when the needle hit the plate.

Before I lug this heavy machine to the repairer’s, I just want to make sure that I’m not forgetting something very obvious when replacing the foot holder. It’s a while since I used the machine much, and I have a terrible memory for these things - though I’ve not found anything in the manual to help me.

I would go to YouTube and search on Janome 7700 Dual Feed. There are some videos that will allow you to compare how your machine looks vs. how it should look. Good luck!

Good idea - Thankyou. I’ve trued to compare mine with the manual, but the latter only has drawings, so I’m not sure how accurate it is.

I have the 6600 with a similar foot. You have to make sure the foot is all the way pressed over to the bar it screws into. It is easy to have it a bit lower or slightly crocked. The same thing can happen when putting on the regular foot. It is s bit fussy.

This one is worse than that. Even if I forget about the foot holder and just try to get the screw into place on the presser bar, it won’t go. It’s as if the screw is too long (and I did check that I hadn’t somehow picked up a different one!).

On the 9400 I have to push it forward then to the right to make it
fit then screw it down. If you can't make it fit, maybe you could go
to your Janome dealership and ask them how. Try doing it while
you're there. I don't know why they make it so complicated.

Thanks. My older Janome doesn’t have the looped metal bar on the left, which makes it much easier. The picture in the manual suggested that the place on the presser foot where the screw is inserted comes below the end of this bar, so it isn’t in the way. Er, no, not true.
