Can anyone tell me about freezer paper?
 

Where can I buy it in Australia? I have looked in supermarket but can't find. I have never heard of freezer paper, I know you can buy freezer film for separating steaks etc when freezing them, but that is a plastic type product, not paper.

Gosh--I love the stuff. You can draw on it to make stencils and so on. It has so many quilting uses. One side has a shine to it and it will stick to your fabric if you iron it. It stays beautifully until you want to peel it off.

In USA it's made by Reynolds Aluminum. I bought one roll and still have a bunch left.

Lindy, you will find it in quiltshops and you can buy a whole roll from several online outlets. I got mine from The Craft Depot. It is indeed a quite different product to the go-between type freezer paper on Australian supermarket shelves. Good luck.

Good luck finding the freezer paper - we sometimes forget that what is accessible one place is almost unheard of someplace else.

The freezer paper we have here in the states does have a plastic side to it that will temporarily adhere to fabric when ironed. The other side is paper and you can write on it. It's also called butcher paper, as it was originally designed for wrapping meat. The plastic (water-proofed) side goes up, the meat gets plopped on top, then the paper is wrapped around the meat and taped, and the butcher then writes the weight and/or price on the outside of the package.

Hopefully this explanation will give you a clearer idea of what you're looking for. :)

lindyb, I have found that Foodland use freezer paper in their deli to wrap cold meats. As they double wrap I have been able to keep the outer wrap to use for quilting and applique. I'm in S.A. so not sure if Foodland is in other states.

It is considered butcher paper - if you have a local butcher shop they may be able to just give you some or tell you where to get some. You will not need the same size roll they use.

Here in Australia the butchers paper is not coated, I have never seen anything like your freezer paper used in a butchers shop, but it is available

It has been in Australia for years, in the local quilt shops......I am not sure about Spotlight or Lincraft, they may have it. Ring around your area, online may be a bit expensive to have it sent (even from Australian online shops) if you can get it locally.... but later when you are thinking of getting any Elmer's washable glue they have it now in Officeworks. Have tried it on a 18inch square, it's a work in progress, washed it out and am starting again with the Sharon Schamber boards and will try it after I have sewn flannelette to them....I don't think it was the glue so much as poor sandwiching, but I digress.....
