I know that Kenmore machines are made by Janome. I have been looking at the Kenmore Model 19233 for $449. Does anyone know what the equalivant in a Janome would be and if the Kenmore would be the better buy. I know there is an abundance of knowledge and experience on this fantastic board and I'm hoping someone would know the answer to my question!! Thanks, Shirley

I started with a Kenmore and upgraded to a Janome. Just keep in mind if you buy a Janome it is probably through a quilt shop and you will have service.

Thank you so much for such a quick response!!!
Actually, I was looking at the Jamone's on line under "Overstock". Budget is real close and I'm have trouble justifying wanting a new machine! The one I am using is a Janome "Harmony" which I like but doesn't have all the features I would like.

Just make sure that you have someplace close to take it for maintenance.

I have the Janome 2010 and I love it! Price was reasonable too.

I think I would prefer a Janome that can be worked on at my LQS, over a Kenmore that would need to go through Sears.

On the other hand if you are going to have it serviced regularly you might want a Kenmore that you could purchase a service agreement on. I did this with my Brother Disney machine because I want it serviced regularly and it did save me money when it is about $70 at the dealer just for a regular service.

I have used the high end Kenmore machines and they sew great.

Someone else had looked into the Kenmores and I found out then that the 19233 is being discontinued. According to the wrtiteups, it doesn't handle thick fabric well. Not something a quilter needs.

I have never head a BAD thing about Janomes!
