Hi all! o.k. so I am new to quilting (just finished my 3rd quilt--a sew as you go baby quilt) and want to attempt a queen size art-type quilt for our bed. This question is for those of you more experienced quilters. Can something like the picture below be done in that size and hold up to normal wear & tear? By the way, I have experience appliqueing a wall hanging (used fusible webbing) and have also made a rag quilt recently. Also, any tips, hints, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on how you do it.

Specifically, you'd want to make sure that all edges of the applique were sewn down securely as well as fused. The picture you showed has lots of quilting, which makes the larger patches sturdier.

I think it would make a really cool bed quilt.

that quilt looks like it has a lot of machine quilting on it, so yes i'd say if you did a larger one with that much quilting that it should hold up well.

I agree that with the amount of stitching the quilt should hold up very well. If you do this quilt please post pictures.

You folks make good points about all the stitching. I didn't even think of that. I am going to try to design something similar but do the quilt in segments/quarters. I only wish my quilt will look anything like this pic I found online, but I will definitely post pics of my measly attempt :) Thanks guys!

I am sure you will do a great job because it is coming from your heart dont be afraid of all the stitching it will only keep your quilt together for a long long time It looks beautiful
