I have a great quilting table with an extension that I use for sewing and quilting. I have a large Sew Steady table that I can use when I FMQ, but I would like to to be able to have the machine on top of the table for garment sewing, and flush with the table for quilting.

My DH is pretty handy, he can cut a hole to accomodate my machine, and I know there is a universal mechanism out there that can be installed in a table but do you think I can find it??

Anyone ever done this? Anyone have any suggestions? Can anyone tell me where to look for instructions or maybe there is a tutorial out there?

Here's one from lee valley:

I think Rockler also carries them.

On the quilt in a day site under free patterns there's an How to turn a farm table into a sewing table. Hope this helps.

Just the insert, not a lift, is available here:

Whatever became of Parsons who used to make these??

My dad fixed my table for me when I got a new machine and and it was a different height. It worked great. He just cut a hole and fixed the bottom so my machine arm would be flush with the top.

Now I know why it is so hard for me to do free motion quilting. I need to look into getting me a table made for my Husqvarna.

My DB is going to cut the hole in mine, and then make a box for my machine to sit in so it is flush with the table. He will make the insert to go around my machine :D:D:D

There will be 3 inserts made, so all 3 of my machines can be used in it

My DH took a drop leaf table and made me a flat bed table. Rockler sells all kinds of sewing machine cabinet parts.

I do have a FMQ setup on an old, sturdy drop leaf table, and the machine is flush, my DH and I are following a tutorial on You Tube to make it. I don't want to cut into the table because the bobbin is not a top loading, it's a side loading bobbin which would be difficult to change if the machine were flush in the table.

The machine that I would like to modify the table for is a top loading bobbin so loading/unloading would not be a problem.
