I tried to look this up here and via google...I have a 12" block of cotton pieces. Don't want it to come back to me! Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance!

You'd just have to weigh it to make sure you put enough stamps on it. :D

Anyone in a block swap deals with this question. A lot of it depends on how much you want to fold the block. If you can get it down to the size of the envelope, go for it, just make sure you have it weighed at the PO AND!!!!! write on the envelope NOT MACHINEABLE. I have gotten some in the mail where the envelope was trashed. For that reason it is important to put the block in a baggy or plastic wrap and put the address (label or paper) on/in the plastic. I have gotten one back that way. Better be safe than sorry.

Yes you can but if it's got a lot of starch or seams or both in it, it's going to be too puffy to go through their machine so you are better off putting it in a 6x9" catalog envelope and paying the little bit extra postage to give it a better chance at not getting shredded in the machine.

Go the the USPS.com website & click on 1st Class Mail. There are rules & max weight for what you can put in a regular envelope. Thickness, maximum weight, etc.

I think they charge you $.20 more if you "request" Non-machinable

When I mail a softcover book, they charge me the extra $.20 because they consider it "ridged" & not machinable - even though it is a softcover. I figure it is better for the book not to go through their machine anyhow.

I usually use the 6" x 9" envelopes. They are really inexpesive at my grocery store. I need to get to somewhere like OfficeMax, then you can buy a quantity pretty cheap.

Yep-I have used regular envelopes to ship a block. No problems.

I just mailed one yesterday in a regular envelope. I put it in a zip lock bag and then the envelope. Never thought about it going through the machine.Hope it make it ok.
