Can I use Sulky in my bobbin?
 

I ended up with a large spool of white Sulky that I thought I was going to use for a project, but ended up using a different thread?
Can I use it for a bobbin thread for FMQ? Or is there a good reason not to?
Going to do a test run but before I tried that thought I'd come here and get some input.

Rayon thread is not as strong as other threads. So, if the quilt gets a lot of use, it would not hold up as well as a thread designated for quilting. Also, it is fatter than other quilting threads, so it would show up more.

Sulky makes poly thread too. I use poly thread in my bobbins a lot.

I think it depends on the fiber content and the thread weight. I have 12 wt Sulky and that won't work in the bobbin.

I will use it on my DSM when I'm doing decorative stitches, but have found on my LA it shreds at the high speed. Not sure about DSM FMQ.

Yes, absolutely. Many quilters use rayon thread top and bobbin, for a pretty look on both sides. I have quilts 30 years old with rayon thread top and bobbin, and they look just as good as they did when first quilted. Someone shared that Sulky has a 40 PolyDeco Thread, too, and we do, and for children's quilts that may be washed constantly or bleached, that may be a better choice. We also have 60 wt. prewound bobbins and a 60 wt. PolyLite Quilting Thread. There is also a 60 wt. spun polyester bobbin thread, which is a little more "hairy" and not as slick as most bobbin threads, if that has been an issue for you. There's not a right or wrong here - just personal preference with your style of quilting.
