I have some old metal bobbins from an old sears machine and some from an old montgomery wards. both fit both machines. the only difference was the sears ones had a little bigger holes around the top. now my question..... I have a Janome DC2010. The only differences I see are the Janome ones are plastic and do not have the holes around the top (I do not know the purpose they served) but otherwise seem to be the same size. can the old metal ones be used if same size?

If the Janome came with plastic bobbins, personally I would only use plastic bobbins.

I have a Baby Lock, my dealer told me you can't use metal on the machines that come with plastic bobbins, but keep them you may find an older machine you can use them on
|
Look at the height of both. If it is higher i would not use it......my janome has a manual and it shows height that is ok or not.

The Janome uses a Class 15 bobbin. The bobbins you have there are Class 66(?). The shaft hole is larger and the bobbin itself is just a tiny bit too tall to use in your Janome.
|
The old bobbin cases were all metal. the newer ones have some plastic. I think the metal bobbin would abrade the plastic in the bobbin case. I wouldn't chance it.

Your Janome is a new machine that cost you a lot of money and costs a lot to fix. If you need bobbins you should buy the Janome bobbins that are bobbins made for it. The few cents you might save using those old Montgomery Ward bobbins could cost you a lot more in repairs to your Janome and a lot of frustration when you can't used it. If you can't afford a few new bobbins, you maybe can't afford to sew.

You can find Janome bobbins on ebay. I think I bought a 100 for $10 a few years ago. Only use around 20 ;-)

thanks to all that answered my question. I was just curious if it could be done. in answer to the one who got her knickers in such a twist over if I could afford a bobbin....if you get that pissy over a simple question maybe you should take a chill pill.
