I have a wallhanging that I made several years ago, that I did only minimal stitch in the ditch at the time. It is bound and has been hanging on my wall for years. But every time I look at it, I wish it had more quilting in it. Is it too late to add some?

I have the same problem, with two of them! I'm going to try it on the not-so-important one (a panel with a cat on it), and then work on the other which is kind of an "art" quiilt replicaiton of San Francisco Plantation on the River WAlk down by New Orleans that I made for my sister.

Sometimes when things hang for a while, the batting shifts. I know with hand quilting you'd be able to fudge any odd fittings, but machines may not work. You may want to baste first if you are going the machine route. Also, figure in your tolerance to puckers that may show only (hopefully) on the backside.

I am definitely going to do both by hand. I know it is more forgiving!

What kind of batting did you use?

If it was nice and flat after your first quilting, and is still nice and flat, it should behave okay.

I think the most bothersome thing for me would be burying those thread ends if machine quilting.

When I took the Machine Quilting class, I asked the same question and she said YES, you can. Also, a friend of mine has a quilt made all by hand by her late mother and her cousin did machine quilting on it to strengthen the quilt. It was fine. Go fo it!

As long as the batting seems ok, I'd go for it.

I would gently wash and block first. Then add quilting til your heart's content.

My original was hand quilted and I no longer remember what batting was in it. It has great sentimental value so I would hate to do anything that might ruin it. Maybe I can try small areas and see how they go. I'm going to try!

Go for it - hand quilting is very forgiving.
