Can this be saved?

My friend received this wall hanging from someone and it had blue markings for hand stitching. It is to be machine stitched, so she spritzed water to remove the blue markings in this area. The red has faded. This is the only place it has been done. Is there a way to remove the red from the white area? or cover up the red on the white somehow? We tried rubbing a wet Color Catcher, but that didn't seem to accomplish much. Thanks, in advance, for your help.

My best recommendation.

try a little blue Dawn on a q-tip and see if that will work--it might also take out the blue dots too. Then of course the wallhanging basically can't be washed as the rest of the red will bleed. Good luck!

Sometimes it is just better to go ahead and finish the quilting, then wash the whole thing and let it bleed. So, the beige background ends up a light pink. Just call it a design choice and don't sweat the small stuff.

But, if it bothers you, there was a bleach pen out there years ago, that might help with the bleeding. Or pour some of the bleach spray cleaner in a bowl and use a q-tip to barely touch the bleach mixture to the fabric. I have taken bleeding out by doing that. The bleach will evaporate so it doesn't need to be washed. Good luck with the blue. The bleach water might work. I'd ask Mr. Google about that.

I would try using Oxyclean. You will have to soak it awhile and be patient. When it's out, dry it right away. Do not air dry it.

Several years ago, I actually bought an old quilt with blue markings. It looks like they used that wheel tool with the teeth and maybe even the dressmakers transfer paper. You know, the stuff that never comes out? Anyway, that quilt is hanging in our bedroom with a shelf above. Somehow, I completely relate to that quilt and how it happened and how frustrating it must have been. I adore it and don't care a bit about the markings - it is that quilt's story. Just another thought on how to deal with this quilt's markings.

You will need a spray/spritz bottle, vinegar, iron and a white towel. Spray on the red, cover with the towel and hot iron. This should "steam out" the red. Be sure to use a clean area of the towel each time. Allow to air dry.

Wait until it’s quilted, then wash with synthrapol.

All good ideas. Also if fabric may bleed use a dye catcher.
