I think this type quilt is a medallion. I am sorry I don't know it by any other name. It also looks to be a very neat table topper that has a lovely overhang.

I've never seen it before either. Maybe it was an original design by the maker.

I don't know the pattern name, but I really like that block. I counted from one edge to the other and figured out that it finishes as an 18 inch block.

All my measurements unless otherwise noted are finish measurements. You have to add any seam allowances.
Step 1 – Center 4 patch that finishes at 4 inches. Square now measures 4.5 inches unfinished.
Step 2 – Your first flying geese will finish at 1” x 4”. You will need 4 of the FG. Add the first two Flying Geese on opposite sides.
Step 3 - Add a 1” square on each end to the other two flying geese. Then sew them onto the other sides. Square now measures 6.5 inches unfinished.
Step 4 - Make 4 more FG. These will measure 2”x6” when finished. Sew 1 on two opposing sides.
Step 5 - Make 4 – 4 patches that will measure 2” square when finished. Sew a 4 patch to each end of the two remaining FG. Then sew the two strips on opposing sides. The square should measure 10.5 inches unfinished.
Step 6- Sew a finished 1”x10” strip to opposing sides.
Step 7- Sew a 1” square on each end of the other 1”x10” strips. Sew the stripes on the other 2 sides. Square should now measure 12.5 inches square.
Step 8- This one is a little bit harder. You will need 1 inch squares for the corners and a modified 2”x12” FG with a 1 inch strip sewed on the outer edge, then sewed to each end. At this point, the unfinished size should measure 18.5 inches, from upper tip to lower tip.

NOTE: To make this block easier, you could add another 1” square on each corner or a half square triangle. Either would look good. The original table topper block appears to be birthed rather than bound.

Found a mistake. The outside squares on the final round should be contrasting, not matching the strips. I am going to change those and add a half square triangle to show you how it could look.

This is the version with a little bit better coloring and the HST's added on the outside edge.

Thanks Teen. I just like the challenge of seeing if I can figure a block out. EQ7 helps, but you have to be able to see the pattern to draw it in EQ. And, I like helping people out. One day I will make that block. I have a long table, so will probably try to figure out how to upsize the length to make it as 3 of them. Who knows when I will sew it?

I think the reason there was no square or half square triangle there is that the edges were supposed to be a drop and the open corners would allow it hang properly. Whatever, it's very pretty and I'm sure it looks great on a table.
