My Kenmore computerized sewing machine started acting up yesterday. I would take my foot off of the petal and it would still keep going. Any idea what I can do to fix this or should I just take it in to be serviced? I've had this machine for a little over a year and have used it lots so maybe I should just take it in but I really hate to put out the money if it is something that I can fix myself and I really don't want to be without my machine for the time that it takes to fix.

Can't help with your problem, but my Janome is also taking a few more stitches. One time I counted 8 which was OK as I was machine quilting, but do not like it when I really want to stop at a particular point.

Guess it is shop repair shop time! Uuurrrggghhh!!! Fortunantely, I have a back-up machine.

Before taking it in, I'd use the straw thingy on a can of compressed air and clean out what I could on the foot pedal. It could be a bit of thread or lint preventing a good connection.

My machine is not just doing a few extra stitches but doesn't stop until I turn the machine off. I'll try the canned air and see if that helps. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks

That is so odd! My Janome started doing the SAME thing today. Is it a quilter's full moon? I cleaned mine from top to bottom, changed the needle, held my tongue right and it still kept sewing on its own. Mainly just over bulky seams. I'm going to keep plugging around with it today and try to keep my fingers out of the way.

Maybe the dealer will offer a suggestion over the phone versus giving my "baby" up for any amount of time. I am getting a "Fc" (foot control) error after it happens, so maybe it's just the foot control? I'm a complete newbie with machines. I've only had this one since October.

My singer pedal started sticking and I plugged in a different pedal, maybe you could try this to determine if it is the pedal or the machine?

I thought on Simply Quilts they suggested NOT using the compressed air because it can force thiengs further back into the mechanics of the machine and possibly do further damage,Just what I heard

Try unplugging your foot pedal from your machine. Clean the plug, check to see of the cord is in good condition. Clean the pedal for fuzz/threads.

When you take it to the shop, ask them for one of the pedals and plug it in your machine..,.or go t Sears and ask to try one of their pedals to see if it works OK.

Buying a new pedal is better than paying for a trip to the shop...and you can get those through Sears parts or on line...

hi ccbear if your machine is just a little over a year old it should be under warranty and the first check up and cleaning also any parts should be free at least mine was and it had a broken bobbin spring but mine was a different brand but would think all would be the same hope this helps

ccbear66, I called the shop that sold me my machine. They had me troubleshoot. If the machine keeps running (wildly!) even after you unplug the foot control, the machine is the issue. If it stops, the foot control is bad. My foot control is on its way back to them. Back to the old Singer for a bit! :cry: I read online that there is a suppressor in the foot control that looks like a big fuse. Supposedly if you take that out, it fixes the "ghost" sewing. I was afraid to try it since I'm still under warranty. All I know is that I'm lucky I still have "unsewn" fingers! That baby was going FAST! LOL! I hope yours fixed itself, but if not, I thought I'd share what I learned today.
