I guess I will have to think about this one, will weigh one against the other. Have a few things around here, that were pricey and worked just right for the job, did I use them again? Not much. Will see. Thanks for your thoughts.I know someone who has every ruler, template you can imagine, does she use them? I do not think so. There are collector people too, I am not one of them, unless I know it is something I can not live without.

If you don't need to be able to see through the ruler, just draw one out on cardboard using the 45* marking on your regular ruler. Have a quick look at this little you tube to see how easy it is to cut either side of the template. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ix9xrAjdX4

Yes, check if you already own rulers with 45° markings on it. I think your 24x6 ruler might. Also you can tape a paper to an excisting ruler and use that as guide. My husband has made plexiglass rulers for me before. He is a wood worker and it did not take much for him to make them as he used his skills and tools were already in the garage.

Many of us have had glass shops cut templates for us out of the same acrylic aka plexiglass as the rulers that we buy. Of course, those will not have any of the normal ruler markings.

I was internet searching for this very same thing. I saw Annaquilts answer and realized that I had several rulers that I could use and even create a 45 degree template using one. Thanks Anna

I had forgotten I asked this. I am finding it is easier for me to buy ruler if I think I can use it again. Thanks have not been on here for a long time.

I try to improvise whenever I can. I don't like buying a special ruler for just one project.

I buy a ruler for one pattern if it is made for that pattern. I keep it with the pattern or book. Little things make my life easier.

Just the opposite. When you use the straight ruler with the 45 degree marking, you can rock the ruler back and forth and cut, whereas if you use the wedge, you have to turn the wedge upside down for every other cut. If you use the straight ruler, you might want to mark the 45 degree line with some tape to remind yourself. When I don't do that, I invariably drift off into outer space and forget and line up the bottom of the ruler with the bottom of the strip.

I think it's actually easier to use the ruler if you can keep your mind on what you're doing . Here are instructions: https://www.omnigrid.com/sites/omnig...tricshapes.pdf
