Yep. It was "What in the Sam Hill." My Mom never said it but my Dad did. Funny things we can remember about our child hood. I was thankful it was not profanity. I have also heard people use the expression: "What in the blazes"?

I've heard it all my life too, our small town has two store, the owner of one is named Sam Hill, so he gets a lot of jokes.

What a great guide for quilt blocks! I was unfamiliar with this one and am glad to add to my list of sites. Thanks!

The term Sand Hill as in " What in the Sand Hill " was used like "What in the dickens?" or "What in the devil?" many years ago. Probably offensive now LOL

It appears Sam has turned to sand once again.

My first thought was Laurel Wreath. That's one of my UFOs from several years ago. It's a pretty block. Just maybe I should get that out and finish it. :) I think my middle has a square in a square instead of the 4 patch.
