I do different patterns and love working on 'Sylvia's Bridal Sampler' from Jennifer Chiaverini. I do have the materials to do an Ohio Star. I made it last year in red and white and loved it. Now have fabrics to make it in red and gold. Hope it is as much fun as the first.

coopah 11-14-2012 06:32 AM

I'm all over the place and don't like doing many patterns twice. Except log cabin and 9 patches.

Hence, I have so many UFO's and projects going. What about you? Do you have one special pattern that you like to make? Or do you think variety is the spice of life?

I love variety. I have several things going now that are all different. A fusible block quilt, fabric covered clothesline bowls, Maple leaf mug rugs, and an art quilt. You should see my sewing room. I am not very good at keeping it in order, but I know where everything I am working on is placed. Well, not always.

Mkotch 11-14-2012 06:51 AM

Ohio Star! Don't live in Ohio but just love the way you can change up the fabrics and triangles for different looks, yet it's fairly easy.

pollyjvan9 11-14-2012 07:00 AM

I'm not sure I have a favorite, but if I need a quick project I really enjoy whipping up strip quilts. I make a lot of baby quilts, table runners, etc with scrappy strips. I also like anything raw edge applique.

Cagey 11-14-2012 07:29 AM

For my seasonal table runners I tend to use a disappearing nine patch. They never turn out the same.

Slow2Sew 11-14-2012 07:45 AM

Warm wishes is my "go-to" pattern. It's easy to adapt to ages and tastes.

Iraxy 11-14-2012 07:48 AM

I like one block wonders. The first one hooked me and I have made at least 8 of them. All different. Favorite one is called Fall Garden Folly. It was made with fabric that my BFF said would not work for a OBW, out of a pattern that was "too busy" and a pattern repeat that was "too small." It is beautiful and looks like a Persian rug. So glad I tried anyway.

Stitchit123 11-14-2012 08:32 AM

Pinwheels......I recently finished 3 twin size for my GDs.And even tho they are all the same color scheme they are 3 totally different quilts. Later on when they are older and not little busy pinwheels themselves they can choose their own fabrics and patterns and help with the 'building' of their own quilts. Erin is the youngest and every thing is 'built' . -and according to her Gramma 'builds' better cakes than Mom : )

GrandmaNewt 11-14-2012 08:37 AM

Every couple of years I seem to end up making another double irish chain. Funny how I have never kept one for myself, every one I have made was a quickie project for a gift.

hevemi 11-14-2012 08:44 AM

I seem to be paper piecing scraps into either log cabins (4-5 inches) or Michigan string blocks (quilterscache.com) all the time. Have piles of them. I assemble these into anything from pot holders to string quilts, whatever is needed fast for a present.

maviskw 11-14-2012 08:55 AM

About 40 or more years ago, out homemakers club started making charity quilts for those in the area who had had a house fire or other tragic thing happen to the family. We each made a big 9-patch and we sewed them together and just "birthed" them. Then we started making 6 inch squares and put them together in Trip Around the World, or a diagonal pattern. Today I found out that that is called Stairway to Heaven. I've made dozens and dozens of those. If there is a benefit for the family, they are sold at auction, and sometimes we give another one to the family, also. I have been putting on the bindings for about 30 years now. Sometimes it is back wrapped over front. But I do enjoy putting on bindings with double folded fabric and machine sew it onto the front. Now I would use glue and fold to the back and stitch in the ditch from the front. It would be just as easy.

Favorite quilt pattern

I have more than one favorite quilt pattern, but I love to make baby quilts with a simple 6.5" square of the main focus fabric, with a 9-patch in coordinating fabrics. It goes together quickly, and makes a nice gift. I have also done several Warm Wishes quilts, which also go together quickly. I also like making the sawtooth or 8-pointed star, I cut strips 7" x wof, then subcut to 6.5 center blocks and the remainder in 3.5 inch strips. I also use this block when making table runners, as the 3.5" strips also make a good border. These are my "go-to" blocks when I need a quilt in a hurry.

MimiBug123 11-14-2012 11:41 AM

Right now I'm liking kaleidoscopes, but next week, it might be something else.

Scakes 11-14-2012 04:25 PM

The one pattern I can remember making several times is a 3-D pinwheel that I like to use for kids quilts. I also made several quilts using a pieced cat block. Sometimes I enjoy making a pattern over and over; sometimes I like trying something new.

Auntie Em 11-14-2012 04:28 PM

Roman Road....it is great for memory quilts....I make them as the grands graduate from high school....5 down, 6 to go!!!

Love the turning twenty! It is the only one I have done several times! I want to do a scrappy in a turning twenty! Have yet to do a log cabin but it is high on my list,!

Hi I like the Log cabin as like you said you can make it many times but put the blocks together differently and they are always pretty. Quilt for fun Grandma G

quiltwiz 11-14-2012 05:46 PM

Log cabin for me too!!

cwessel47 11-14-2012 05:50 PM

Flying geese, stars, log cabin - um, no. I can NOT name just one!

lfstamper 11-14-2012 06:04 PM

I always have leaders and enders ready to go through the machine with no specific pattern in mind.

mcdaniel023 11-14-2012 06:16 PM

I love log cabin and love to make them.

DJinSC 11-14-2012 06:32 PM

It's surprising to see how many said the log cabin. That is the one I have made the most of. I have a really cute log cabin baby quilt pattern I have made 4 times and still love it.

cowgirlquilter 11-14-2012 06:32 PM

I tend to gravitate towards stars and pinwheels......

DOTTYMO 11-14-2012 11:52 PM

I never do the same again. I begin any with a pattern idea and when finishe. It has so man y of my own changes it is totally different. Love to alter patterns.

maryfrang 11-15-2012 05:09 AM

I love to make sampler quilts. I really like the different blocks and everyone quilt and block is different.

Jingle 11-15-2012 06:24 AM

I have made several patterns more than once. I can't think of the names right now. I have made about 6 log cabins and variations of it. I am doing my second Illusion quilt, using just two fabrics. Very good pattern to use up some of the large fabric cuts I have. It's easier to find fabrics in my stash by using two that go together. I tend to buy what I like and pay no attention to if they will go with anything else. Of course I have many I want to make.

oldquilter 11-15-2012 06:25 AM

Love pinwheels, and variations of them.

I was getting teased about "Layer Cake Collection", so am now using them up for Sandy relief. I think I have done about a half dozen of these so far.

Just found this pattern also and made a quick "reading quilt", backed in Minky, for our four year old grand daughter's birthday. She loves Berenstain Bears, so used that layer cake, but only the "girlie" half. She is due to have a brother in February so will save the "boy" squares for a reading quilt for him some day. The label reads, "Emilia, Snuggle up and read. Love, Nana 2012
It was very quick and easy. Finished it measures about 35" x 45", using 20 of the layer squares.

I agree with you . I have a favorite paper piece 6in star that I use a lot. The older I get I try to keep them simple.

DixieLee 11-15-2012 07:14 AM

I have only been quilting for a couple years and already I have made two snowball quilts and two yellow-brick-road quilts. The snowball is fun and different and the road quilts use up a lot of scraps of various sizes.

MillieH 11-15-2012 08:00 AM

With me it's not a favorite pattern as much as a favorite theme. I love star blocks and usually have one in progress for hand piecing on trips. After one hurricane (Louisiana) when our power was out for almost three weeks, my husband set ourcamper up on a generator in our driveway. Having a stack of blocks ready to piece is what helped me keep my sanity.

wildyard 11-15-2012 09:08 AM

For me it's always the D9P, I come back to. So fun and versatile.

squires1042 11-15-2012 09:48 AM

Scrappy for me are the favorite if I want something to do and it needs to be mindless, will start with a bin or 2 1/2 or 3 inch squares and just start sewing them together, only time I allow myself to color coordinate is if they are the same color going together. Otherwise I like to take all kinds of blocks and build as I go. My most used pattern is probable the Sidelights one, it can be used with any standard size panel or a good focal fabric and goes together very quickly. I also have many want to's on my list. Paper piecing is my next challenge to myself, this method does not come easy for me. English paper piecing however is very easy for me.

barbb baumgardner 11-15-2012 10:22 AM

I like to take blocks, items, scraps of stuff no one wants to use and make them into charity quilts. I dislike patterns...they are the bulk of my UFOs.

Scraplady 11-15-2012 10:43 AM

I really like to try lots of different things and enjoy creating my own patterns. But if I need something quick, I have made Bonnie Hunter's Star Struck pattern several times. It's easy, uses up my scraps, and I have yet to be disappointed with the results.

quiltingcandy 11-15-2012 01:17 PM

Guess I would have to say the "I Spy" - love the hexagon style, the patchwork style - even the rail fence version. My favorite is the one that make kids and adults smile and look at the various fabrics.

solstice3 11-15-2012 01:52 PM

for quick and easy I love the" Krazy Quilt"

margecam52 11-15-2012 02:30 PM

Single Irish Chain is one of my very favorites...2nd would be the log cabin.
