Can you Recommend a book to learn Hand Quilting???
 

I would very much like to learn to hand quilt and would like to have some recommendations on what the best book with illustrations would work for me. My daughter is also interested in learning, she is 37. I do a lot of machine quilting, but now its time to work on some "hand quilted" heirlooms for the family.

I know there are a few good books out there, as Carol Doaks, Jinny Beyer, and Georgia Bonesteel. I need good illustrations, any recommendations???

But really, for handquilting you just do what works best for you. I am very unconventional when it comes to technique. I don't use a thimble, I push the needle with my fingernail on my index finger and thumb. I only use a lap hoop, many don't use anything or use floor racks.

but the book I recommended does have loads of close up photos, practice exercises and pictures galore of exquistie handquilting.

Forgot to mention, do these books cover learning to hand piece also? l just want to learn the right way the first time.

The essential quilter only addresses quilting not piecing.

Jinny Beyer has a book called "Quiltmaking by Hand." She covers piecing and hand quilting.

I thought her directions on piecing were very clear.

Enjoy your hand piecing experience - I find it's a great way to get things done and still be able to "watch" tv with DH. :)

I would say, try a video on YouTube if you can't get to watch someone do it in person. I tried and tried and read all kinds of books, couldn't get the hang of it til I took one lesson.
