I usually add my quilt labels after I am completely finished with the quilt. Sometimes I stitch it on even though I can see the stitching on the front. Most of the time I cheat and use steam a seam to fuse it to the back. I am not sure I can use a hot iron on a quilt that has polyester batting though. Someone else on here told me I couldn't do this to a fleece backing, so I was wondering about the batting itself-if it would melt. Thank you.

When I pressed a block with polyester batting on the back, it came out flat as a pancake. I would hand stitch the label on.

One last question:

How do you hand stitch it on? Do you just go around the edges be careful not to grab the top of the quilt?

You could tightly do just the corners and a little in the center of the sides.

i do it all the time and have not had a problem...i keep reading about people here having their poly batting melt from ironing fabric with it in...but in 10 years i have never had this happen...i iron/press LOTS the only difference between what i do and what i've read from others is the steam....i never put water in my iron, i use a spray bottle of water...but other than not using steam i really don't know why there seems to be so much poly batting melting. i always fuse my labels on then i hand stitch around them...have never had a flat / melted/ hard area on a quilt. if you are worried about it maybe make a little sandwich from your scraps and use your fusable and see what happens. and yes, when i do iron it flattens...that's what ironing does...but then when it's washed and dried it fluffs right back up just beautifully

I've never had a problem either, maybe they are using a iron that is too hot.

or steam it on the backing fabric before adding the backing to the quilt.

I think I will try making a little sandwich and testing it. Don't know why I didn't think of that myself. I don't use steam either so I will try and see.
