Do candlemats have any special batting on the inside. Also does anyone know where to find a free pattern?

The candlemat patterns that I've made are from felted wool. After the embroidery work is done on the one layer, then you stitch a backing of the felted wool on to cover your stitching but also it gives it more stability. The patterns were from Bareroots.

orphan blocks are also a great way to make candle mats

If you sign-up to receive both Annie's Attic and Clotilde's daily ad there are some patterns for candle mats on them. On Annie's Attic there is a free pattern each day and Clotilde's once a week. Sometimes they are candle mat patterns. However, if you look at the photos in the ads they look easy enough to copy without using a purchased pattern. At least they give some ideas to create your own.

I just got a candle mat pattern from Clotilde's. Yesterday I checked and it was still there- quick go get it! If it's gone, pm me, I'll scan it in and email it to you.
