canned air alert

If you do or plan to use canned air to clean the lint from your machine, look at this link http://bearhugquiltworks.blogspot.co...s-to-wise.html This was written by a machine repair man. Good to know

Do not use canned air unless you can spray it from the bottom up so that the lint comes out. Otherwise, if you do it from the top down, it just pushes the lint into the machine farther than it already was.

The link doesn't work but I also have heard not to use the canned air for the same reason winia has posted.

Thanks so much for the info. Haven't used it but considered doing so. Link took me to Bing search page & the link under your post led me to the link you recommended.

While at the LQS where I purchased my machine, I inquired about using the canned air to blow out my machine. This is what I learned. Most of us, including me, blow into the machine from the front. This is incorrect. We are to blow from the rear, have the bobbin casing area open and allow the lint to blow out the front door. This means standing behind the machine to blow. It all makes sense to me now.

Just thought you'd all like to hear another opinion.

I use canned air when cleaning my machines and have never had a problem. I see this link circulating periodically, but I honestly have never had any issues.

I just learned this about two months ago, thanks for the reminder!

Instead of canned air, I use my handheld vacuum. I bought one of the cheap "sewing machine" vacuums but the motor wasn't strong enough to move anything. But I liked the attachment - it had both soft bristles and open rubber tubes. So, I put the hose attachment on my Shark hand vac and used duct tape to add that attachment to the end of it. Works great. The only other thing I use is the machine's lint brush if there's anything it didn't get.

I use attachments for my vacuum which are sold as a kit to vacuum your computer keyboard and fan
