Can't Believe Some of the Things I Do

So I finished this quilt a couple of days ago. The outer borders had to be pieced due to their length and they are batik so there isn't any right or wrong side to the fabric. I'm loading it on the LA this afternoon and notice that I sewed one of the borders on inside out - the seam that pieced the strip together is on the outside! I didn't even notice it when I pressed the finished top. Now to tear it off and resew it. Just when I think I've made about every mistake that I possibly can, I amaze myself with something new.

I can sympathize. For the first time ever, I forgot to get the fabric for the binding(which I would want to match the border).
I just discovered this and, of course, couldn't get any more of that fabric. I was able to get something very similar from same manufacturer but had to pay extra shipping to get here quickly. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. Have to have this done within a week and a half.

This is a big lesson in "live and learn" and "do your homework".

I did the same thing today! sewing the binding on machine having a good start and wham, the joining seam is on the outside. At least it wasn't that much sewn on the quilt. I don't press my binding in half before sewing so didn't notice I had it folded wrong.

I feel your pain, Pam. I made a quilt for my husband with a border with words on the fabric. I was running very short of fabric so I had to piece the borders. As I was getting ready to sandwich it, I noticed the the words were the opposite way on half of one border. As I was very short of fabric, I barely had enough to cut another border. I think I have a 6" square of that fabric left now.

Don't tear it off, Pam! Since it's batik, just undo the backwards seam and an inch or two where it is joined to the quilt in either side of the seam. Flip the seam and reset the right way, then reattach the little bit to the quilt. This saves pinning and sewing the entire thing. Oh, good plan, Jennifer! That would be much easier!

Hey, at least it is a new mistake, not the same one over and over and over. Then I'd be worried!

In the beginning of my sewing journey, I attached a velveteen sleeve wrong side out---3 times!

Mistakes are made in every quilt, if we chose to acknowledge it or not. Remember that only God is perfect.

Sometimes you can applique a matching piece of the same fabric over something like this.... wonder how I would know that??
