Can't Find Enough Lights for my Log Cabin Quilts--Any Suggestions?

So, I saw this quilt --http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2013/...-Tutorial.html

a while back and it really inspired me to do a few scrappy (but somewhat controlled scrappy with respect to colors and tones of fabrics) log cabins. However, I've noticed that my stash has very, very few print on whites/off whites so I need to get lots of different light prints to be able to make these. I have 2 quilts in mind that I want to do--one with bright colors from Me and My Sisters lines (Dilly Dally, Giggles, Amelia, and Twirl) and another with soft medium pastel tones from the Coquette line (I have one yard cuts of 18 of the tone on tone prints from this line--pink, yellow, lavendar, blue and green).

If you know of any fabric lines that have some white/off whites with subtle prints I would love to know the names so I can try to hunt them down. While I feel like I want to make these right now, I feel like it may take a while to accumulate enough good lights. I only have two LQS in my area so I don't have a lot of choices to see things in person so I do most of my shopping online. Thanks.

I like the Me & My Sister lines too. They have some dots on white prints. I used the multi-dot instead of white for the background on their Happy quilt.

Yes, I have the white with pink dots and white with purple dots from Amelia and I have a jelly roll on the way that is from their "Favorites" line and that has a few print on whites as well. I have a fat quarter set from Dilly Dally but that line only has 2 or 3 whites but they are with black print.

I've had the same problem. Even when I go into the store to buy light colored fabric, I come out with more darker colors, so I usually buy twice as much of the light fabrics. It will still be scrappy if you use the same fabric more than once.

Before you go out to buy, enlarge that picture (hold down the "ctrl" button on the keyboard while moving the scroll wheel on your mouse) and look really carefully at the light-side colors. There are pastel yellows, blues, pinks, purples, tans and other pastel prints with little or no white. You may not need to buy as much as you think!:thumbup:

The new Kate Spain line, Sunnyside, has a lot of light prints, and probably some in tones that could work for you. I think I even saw a collection of "low volume" prints at FatQuarter shop which included some Sunnyside, along with other light prints. I rarely am tempted by fat quarter bundles, but that one was really pretty.

Lights do not have to be white, (and in my opinion would look better if it was not all whites) Using lots of light colors will give it more texture. I like to use shirtings for the lights in my log cabins, and light colored prints.

These are excellent links! I always need to be reminded that light doesn't mean just cream on white or "no color". If you look closely at the featured quilt in the link of the first post - she has lots of mediums on light backgrounds (like checked fabrics). They really add interest to the lights.
