I'm with Handcraftsbyjen. I found the pieces went together best if I used one or two pins from the 1st end to the center. Then, once I stitched to the center, I pinned to the second end. For some reason, they fall together better that way.

I don't use pins but I starch the snot out of my fabric so that it will stand up on its own. then I iron the blocks open and together. it has helped a ton. I just finished a baby quilt with this block and only one of the blocks I messed up a little bit. It has helped a lot. I have made a few of them and the ones that I didn't starch i had loads of trouble with.

Put a pin halfway between the center point and the end as well as the end. Don't worry about the other half just yet. Startin at the end, begin sewing to the center and stop sewing at the center with the needle down. Put your finger in the fabric and get the excess fabric out and put a pin in the end. Continue stitching to the end. You shouldn't have any pleats.

Thank you for all the advice. I think I will starch the heck out of it and work with a couple of pins only. I think I need to just practice, practice, practice.

Whew...I've never done one of these blocks, but after reading all this, I'm thinking I'm not going to try one either...LOL

Don't be discouraged. They really aren't hard. Perhaps you could even have your LQS watch you make a block and give you pointers if our tips aren't helping you enough.

they are actually quite easy, especially larger than charm size. try one and you may never stop.
