I cannot find my long ruler I use with my rotary cutter! Yikes...how on earth can something that large disappear? I am hoping to rearrange my sewing room tomorrow evening. I am not happy with the way I have it right now and it has become a 'catch-all' once again. I go in there to sew and, honestly, it just 'feels' like it is such a mess that I am uncomfortable. Absolutely must get it under control

Quilt4u 04-26-2010 02:05 AM

Ya I got it done. After two long weeks I got it done. Got to do some quilting yesterday afternoon. Right after I finished clean it. It felt so good. But Boy am I sore.  :-) :-)

I have come to the conclusion that being orgainized may be over rated! I use to be able to find things better when I had "orgainized clutter" now I cant remember my line of thinking when I started to put things away. Before moving to MI, I lived alone, my living room was my sewing room(awesome, right?) and now..... UGH!Well I found a TON more stuff that I really need of course, and now Im trying to think of places to put it.I really need to find a quilt group here in Flint to join.

MI Applique Queen 04-27-2010 06:55 AM

I know there are quilting bee's in the Grand Rapids area but I'll be darn if I can get one to respond to my request. I really don't want to join a big organization right now. Just a small group here on the NE side of Grand Rapids. We are looking for a new Church maybe the one we are led to will have a quilting bee.

The only time I "clean" my sewing room is when it gets to the point that I can't find a space to work..or that I am spending to much time searching for something. Last weekend I cleaned and organized..voila! My motto is....
CREATIVE CLUTTER IS BETTER THEN IDLE NEATNESS

I had to laugh about your husbands tools. About 10 years ago..my DH gave the most wonderful tool box for Christmas. It had everything in it imagined. He has a huge garage and the basement for his tools. At the time we had a flower shop with a huge barn to the rear and he had tools in there too. But, every time I need him to do something..he would borrow the tools from my box. With in a few months the tool box was expty..he couldn't find any of his tools..nor mine. So..now he comes into my sewing room..and if he makes a comment..about things being a mess...I say.."I know where my tools are"..he just snickers and walks away.

Not the ultimate, but I love working in the sunroom and DH won't give up the other end for TV viewing when its nice out. Its a long room that at one end is LR furniture and the other has been taken over by me!! Maybe one day it'll ALL be MINE!!! Let's see how uncomfortable I can make him!!

lol, do you think making him uncomfortable will work? lol

Comeon Sewcrafty, you really don't want him to leave. You're still a newlywed!
 :)
You just want him to stay in his chair and not bother you, right!

That is so funny!! My husband isn't quite that bad, but everytime he comes into my sewing room and looks around, he doesn't say anything because he just recently got into model trains, so I think we're even -for now!

Ok, this is going to be a long day. I am going out to the garage and start bringing in everything marked sewing room. There are countless numbers of boxes, bags and entire rolls of batting(working at Jo-Anns Fabric may not of been a good idea for me!). How I am going to make this all work, I have no idea, but Im thinking that if I post my progress, it will give me a greater incentive. When I got up with my soon to be husband, I told him what I was doing today, I think he believes I am crazy, not that he didnt think that before, but even more now. I have to get this done, right? Ok, time to hit the garage, wish me luck.

MI Applique Queen 04-28-2010 06:21 AM

I have my own tools and tool box too. I have bought him all the tools he would need and the tool boxes to go with all the tools too. I was hoping he would learn how to use them. lol I know how to use most of them and do use them. lol He also goes to my tool box first too. Or use to. He didn't put my tools back so now he is not allowed to use it unless he ask. Besides it is in my sewing room which he is not familiar with. lol His talents lies with people. He is very good with people. The FBI trained him in hostage negotiation. That man can talk. He's a correction officer. And very good at it.

Of course you have my good luck wishs, is there a reason for this? like we need reasonable excuses, right?

great aunt jacqui 04-28-2010 10:27 AM

It is now 2:20. are you still unpacking your sewing stuff?...did you even stop for lunch or a cup of tea? hope sew.

mygirl66 04-28-2010 01:08 PM

I just moved from Toledo,OH to Flint,MI. I have been here for a month, and wanted to put the house together before the sewing room, or the rest of the house would have never got done, lol. I made alot of progress today, but there is still alot of work to do. I have 15 more containers in the garage, but I have brought in twice that amount, Im almost out of room tho! We need to get more shelves to go above the sewing table, and around the corner, at least 2 rows. I cant wait till its done, I want to sew soooooo bad!

mygirl66 04-28-2010 01:17 PM

I stopped for an iced tea break about 3:00. I still have alot to do tonight, but Im starving, its dinner time! Thanks for the support guys, I need it! :D

My girl how you coming along? Have you come up for air yet?
Moved 3 different rms in my house yesterday all because I wanted a bigger sewing rm. What a job, doing the detail work today, this is the closest I want to come to moving for along time. espically since we just moved here a a yr. ago...way to old for all this heavy lifting or I am just plain out of shape..lol

Missi 05-05-2010 11:03 AM

Glad to hear I am not the only one unable to sew. I posted on another thread about my sewing room mess. I had a small water leak a week and a half ago and had to empty out half of the room. I wasn't gonna just restack it all so I am going through everything and resorting. In the process I bought cubes from Target online that stack great and I am refolding all of my fabric around rulers. It stacks so pretty. I am down to the bottom of the fabric stash. But I can't figure out how to fold my yardage of chenile. Ideas out there? Hopefully I will be able to finish up this weekend and post some pics. I have to unearth my current WIPs cause I have two days at the quilt shop Friday and Saturday for sewing. We call ourselves Quilters Under Cover :)

great aunt jacqui 05-05-2010 12:44 PM

thats a cute name ,undercover. maybe I will suggest that we name our group. all that work you are doing, hope you stop for breaks.

Margie 05-05-2010 01:18 PM

I am trying to function in the worst mess of a sewing room. I started to reorganize it, but have so many projects to finish with a deadline. I just need to take a week and devote to it :(.

Grama Lehr 05-05-2010 01:24 PM

I have to show this to my husband!! He's a clean freak! His shop is cleaner than my sewing room. He keeps all of his stuff all nice and orderly! He even dusts and vacuums, THE GARAGE!! Now, I do vacuum, dust once in awhile, but mostly I just move stuff around so much, it doesn't ever get dusty!

garysgal 05-05-2010 03:12 PM

Remember in the 80's when everyone was trying to find out if they were a Sanguane, or Coleric or whatever? I found out I am a Sanguane and we can get organized, but we don't stay that way. It is not our personality. So, I clean and organize, and try to live with it, and then if it is so bad I can't do a thing, I re-organize again.

mygirl66 05-06-2010 12:55 PM

OMG, I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel! We got the other two rows of shelves up, it was a total mess trying to orgainize all of my fabric!I have one stack for each color, then a stack for bleached, unbleached muslin, solids, flannels, and 3 stacks of "others". I went to target to get the cubes you snap together to put yarns, beading stuff, books & misc. in. I cant believe I have more room for fabric! LOL! I should have everything done tonight, then I can finially sew!

the giving up of the possibilities of all those wonderful pretties is so hard!!! I have so far 1 large bag, but I really have only begun to scratch the surface

mygirl66 05-08-2010 08:58 AM

Just when I thought I was done.....I found 3 bags of fabric my syb sister in law gave me. It all has to be washed(she had cats, love em but my allergies....) so I have 1 bag in the wash now, and I found some more fabric, I had wondered where it went to! It was all of my vintage 1920-1959's yummy fabric! Glad I found it, but now searching for the right place to put it. I worked on some english paper piecing last nite, and felt guilty because my sewing room wasnt finished. So I have decided that I am going to get it all done as a mothers day gift to myself. Now, if only the rest of the rooms in the house looked as good, LOL
