Can't throw away anything.... part 4!!
6 Attachment(s)
As you know I gather every little itsy bitsy tiny part of fabric: especially small stripes and selvages!!! And as the other fabric fades these little leftovers grew... and grew.... and....
Have a look: So it was time again to "construct" some new fabric out of them!!! And here I used the selvages!! The stripes in the diagonal settings were ironed on fusible web, the straight setting is normal sewn together!!! And now I'm thinking of what to do with these new fabrics: I think little bags will make it... |
Great job using up tiny pieces!
nicely done.
Lovely fabric you have made. it will make some really pretty items.
That is way more patience than I have. I used my last pile o' bits as stuffing for a dog bed. Your idea is prettier for sure.
What lovely fabric pieces you now have! You are one clever lady!!

I think it's amazing what you do with those bits. I don't have the patience to do that myself.
fabulous work you have there. great little bags. I too put my
salvages on fusible lt wt interfacing. so farm I've only made pincushions |
Good job! Very pretty!
I have piles of pieces like that, exactly 3 zip lock backs stuffed full and more. I've been meaning to turn it all back into "fabric" like shown in this video: http://www.superiorthreads.com/video...ls/conductive/ BTW, the tutorial is about using conductive thread to create electronics. The side point is that he creates his guitars out of scrap fabric by smashing it between two pieces of solvy and sewing a mesh over it. If you want to explore conductive thread, you can buy the thread for about 1/5 the cost through robotics stores..... |
Cute and efficient way to use up every last bit of material.
Good for you! I don't like to throw out any piece of fabric that could eventually tun into another beautiful quilt or other creation. I've taken thin strips and made many string quilts with them and the small leftover bits and pieces make wonderful crumb quilts. I love scrappy quilts too!
Well done. With the cost of fabric every bit saved is a good thing.
We keep paying more for fabric these days...use every bit you can in some way. We pay for the scraps too.
I will be going to a quilt weekend next week that gives me an idea to use my selvage to made a DUMPLIN bag
you have given me an idea as we will be doing little things x whatever one wants to do.Love scraps I collect them as well. |
Wow... need to get my scraps out and do something with the. My dd laughs at me for keeping my scraps.
I have very large pieces of fabrics and try to use them up. I do use scraps for quilts, usually not smaller than 1-1/2". Maybe when I get bigger pieces sewn up I may try your method.
Good for you to use tiny pieces. Doubt I have enough patience for that. |
Fun things from your bits and pieces!
I made placemats out of some of the recreated yardage I have like that. Also saw a spool quilt that the fabric strips made the "thread" portion of the spool. Cute idea!
How creative are you...Great job.....
I like your style:)....from a dedicated scrap saver.
I saw a tote bag made with selvages and it was very interesting to look at! People that don't sew can't imagine what these odd stripes are!
When working with selvage strips how do you stitch down along the bound edge? Or do you stitch that side? My brain just isn't fitting around this process. It looks like a fun use of the pieces. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you . Joyce in Delaware

Looks great.

this makes me ashamed of my garbage bin. i know i should save and donate, or save and use....but i hit a point where i need stuff cleaned up. i need to get better about these things.

Recycling at it's best! I have a hard time throwing out scraps as well. Fortunately there is a shop that collects all forms of scraps and battings for dog beds.
Fantastic when you can "make your own fabric"
Beautiful creations! You have WAY more patience than I do!!
Wow...super work putting the scraps to use!

I'm really curious about your techniques on these...I love scrappy stuff and these are super cute! |
What an awesome use of your scraps. I never seem to be that productive with them.

http://quispamsisquilter.blogspot.de...ilt-block.html But I sew the stripes so together, that no fabric shows up between the selvages!!! |
WOW I am impressed, those look wonderful!
