Beautiful quilt grammyp!!! :D "Controlled" scrappy sounds doable...
|
GrammyP,
Your quilt work is beautiful...a real inspiration! |
OK, I get the pulling from the bags. I PROBABLY could do that, but when its being put together, how do you not get fixated!!!! :? I guess this might be a control thing!! I really think this is when I'm really going to get over stimulated!!!

Even when I worked at the school and they had these mismatch days for dressing I couldn't do it. Got extremely nervous!!!! Sensory overload!! I have tons of fabric and would love to do these especially the HST ones. I figured maybe I could make separate piles (or bags - that way I can't see whats coming) of lights, med., and darks. How do you get it to come together? Do you use 1 fabric to tie everything together? Trying to wrap my head around this!! :-)

I start with fabrics I like that makes it easy. I get bored with just 2-10 fabrics. I like them all and so scrappy works better for me.

JJean; Beautiful quilt. Love the color combinations. :)

I too have this problem. I have seen some scrappy quilts that are really beautiful, but am afraid to try one out of fear of making something that looks miscellaneous.
I like things that looked "planned" and have symetry. Maybe I need to get out of my comfort zone and just go for it. |
I am sorting into lights, mediums and darks...and then I will start pulling and sewing...I guess I am still partially controlled LOL :D:D:D

One way to make yourself do a truly scrappy quilt is to put the pieces in a brown paper bag, pull and use a piece from the bag with out critiquing the order or the match. Some of the most beautiful quilts and afgans(sp) are put together regardless of matches. I know it is hard to do...but truly a beautiful result. I think the only thing that really matters when making a scrappy quilt is using each of the pieces more than once. This allows the eye to roam all over, taking it all in.
