Card trick question

I really love the card trick pattern...but...as you seasoned quilters know, it it tricky. What advice can you give a really, really, REALLY new quilter on how to choose colors to keep it from looking like a swastika? Is it best to use low contrast, monochromatic colors, or busy, busy pattern fabrics with a busy background? What do y'all think? Also any links to pics would be appreciated.

hi...one of the best uses for quilterscache.com is the last page...on the first page, they give you the picture of the finished block, the measurements and a good representation of the color balance. Then on the second page they detail the construction. Each block takes 2 or 3 pages to explain and illustrate but whichever is the last page shows a little list of names which are the examples that people have mailed in to show their version of the block.... this particular block was demonstrated in an unusual color combo as they show it in two different opposing color choices...the list of sample quilts on page three show both the newer version and the classic 4-color version.... seeing the other people's quilts really helps to define for us the things we like and dislike about the color combinations....

when you get to quilterscache go to the white box labeled 'where do you want to go today'... and choose the line that says Quilt Blocks Galore--Free Quilt Block Patterns... then choose the beginning of the alphabet for Card Trick and check it out... bookmark the front page as you will use this many ways in the future...
