Carts hair stylists use

I've been looking online at carts that hair stylists use at work. I'm almost ready to purchase one. They have so many places to store things and they are slim and tall and perfect for quilting. What do you think? Think it is a good idea?

barny 02-06-2014 11:54 AM

I think they would be great. Drawers pull out and outside shelves for all kinds of things.

EvelynJ 02-06-2014 11:57 AM

Dang, now that is a great idea! Yes, ma'am that is a great use of space and functionality. Hmmm, I may have to put that on my list of "needs' LOL

SueSew 02-06-2014 12:13 PM

Great idea!
They roll around which is great - you can stick it in a corner, or pull it out when you need stuff. I could see using it next to my sewing machine table to help hold a big quilt. Right now I use an odd kind of aluminum frame thing that I put big cutting boards on. That way I get a big L shape on the left of the machine.

I have one and never think about using it. It's being used for other things. I need to rethink it's use. On sides you can hang spray bottles easily. CAn also hang rulers easily off sides. Thanks. Have had it for 30 years. Mine is on casters. Yes i'll have to repurpose it. Thanks for the reminder! You can also take the drawers out . My drawers attach and hang off to side.

I think that is a great idea!

What a great idea!! I was a hair dresser (in my 20s). Those carts hold a LOT of stuff.

Silver Needle 02-07-2014 06:10 AM

Great Idea. I'm using the little plastic drawers on castors from Walmart. But the drawers don't always want to pull out or go back in.

scrapinmema 02-07-2014 06:28 AM

Think this is a great idea, can think of a lot of uses for it next to my sewing table.

You did a great job Mandyrose. I thought those were Command strip hooks. They are really great !!

SusanSusan33 02-07-2014 08:40 AM

How funny!! Someone was asking about using a hairdressers cart on the main board earlier! Great idea for sure!! :)

Woodster 02-08-2014 04:42 AM

How about a Sally's Beauty Supply?

AnnT 02-08-2014 04:54 AM

Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

Amythyst02 02-08-2014 05:21 AM

Fantastic idea!!!

Bneighbor 02-08-2014 05:22 AM

You could also check around your local salons (spelling?). Watch for ones that are remodeling, they may be replacing theirs and would be willing to give you a good price on the old ones.

Amythyst02 02-08-2014 05:32 AM

I found several here ... http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_saca...ey+cart&_frs=1

That is too funny you should write this now...I almost wrote in the organization section about these. I haven't done hair in 23 years, but kept my cart in the attic. I JUST got it down last week to use for my sewing items. It works GREAT! You should be able to get one at a Beauty Supply store if you have one in your area. Mine is over 35 years old and still looks like new with no cracks or anything, so it's a good investment. The drawers and nice and deep, unlike the scrapbooking ones.

institches33 02-08-2014 07:04 AM

Also check office supply stores for secretary's carts.

Caswews 02-08-2014 07:05 AM

Great way to think outside the box for sure !! May have to look into that ...

Quiltinjay 02-08-2014 08:54 AM

Great idea! I may have to look into that.

tessagin 02-08-2014 09:01 AM

Sometimes you have to wipe them down. Pulling the drawers in and out cause tears and catch. Look to see if that's the problem. You may also have something hanging from above drawer. Could be string or tool.

Go to Sam's Club or Costco...I paid 25 dollars for mine...

caspharm 02-08-2014 12:08 PM

Great idea! I am currently using an art cart, but it is rather small. I may have to pick up one of these.

JanieH 02-08-2014 12:47 PM

I think this is a fantastic idea - so much storage - I love the vertical storage space!

Diana Lea 02-08-2014 03:27 PM

Watch out Sally's here we come.

oldtisme 02-08-2014 03:40 PM

I just bought one on EBay for $35.00 FREE SHIPPING!

cashs_mom 02-08-2014 04:12 PM

That's a great idea! I never thought of it.

sunkistmi 02-08-2014 06:55 PM

What a great idea!

michelleoc 02-09-2014 09:39 AM

brilliant!

Tippysmom 02-09-2014 03:18 PM

I have been using my vertical tray cart (from Michael's) for storage, but today I rearranged everything so I can keep it by my machine! My most used tools are in the top drawer, and larger items on the top. What a great idea!

Getting things away from my machine is wonderful. I used to have things in trays on the machine leaf and when I was working on a larger item, they would end up on the floor. Working on my project today was a breeze, no scattered or lost tools.

Thank you, ladies!!

OldHairTwister 02-10-2014 09:03 PM

Being an active hairdresser, I bought two extras for my studio some time ago. They are wonderful:D

Monroe 02-10-2014 09:44 PM

There are some basic ones in IKEA in nice colors. I had been considering a used medical cart.

Bluelady 02-10-2014 10:01 PM

Great idea!

jcrow 02-11-2014 05:09 PM

I bought one from ebay for $36.00. It's pretty plain, but for $36, how could I refuse? Thanks for the links!!

pokeygirl 02-12-2014 07:35 AM

Hey....I'm a retired hair stylist and have one in my closet. Thanks for the great idea. Hmmmmmm....now, why didn't I think of that????

Stitch124 09-04-2014 03:58 AM

I bought a cart from Salon Supply for $29.99. I am spray painting it pink now. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a magnetic bowl to use for pins. It also fits in one of the holders for bowls in the cart. Will attach a pic of the finished cart when I'm done spray painting it and it's set up in my sewing room.

I have one of those and I love it!! I love that it's heat proof; I use it under my ironing table.

It rolls great and holds everything I need. When I put it away, I take the iron off of the heating plate and put it on the silicone pad below. This makes it so it'll fit under my table, and also guarantees it is off when I'm done. (It's a cordless, so it's definitely "off" when it's not on its charging base.)
