Cat Quilt Block help!!

1 Attachment(s)
I would like to make this picture into a 6.5" quilt block. Any suggestions for how best to do this? I'm so very new to quilting in general that I don't even know where to begin. Thanks!!!

6.5" is awfully small! Are you thinking of making a geometric version? Paper pieced? If you are thinking of realistic applique, then any of Sharon Malec's books would show you the technique she uses. You can probably find her books on Amazon and eBay.

Could you use the printer to print that picture on a fabric?

Would that hold up to washing and can you do this with a regular inkjet printer? I did think about printing it on fabric and then doing some hand embroidery as an embellishment. I also thought about doing thread sketching but have never done anything like that before and have no idea how difficult it would be.

I've thought about paper piecing but have only done very simple paper piecing and think this might be more complicated than I could do it. I will definitely check out her books. Thanks!

For a block that small, I really think your only option is to print it. JoAnns carries printable fabric sheets that go thru your ink jet printer. As far as durability goes, you wouldn't want to use it on a baby quilt that gets washed weekly, but for a light use item it will be ok.

I think printing it on fabric would be your best bet because of the size.

Thanks all!! I looked into printing it and that seems to be a good idea for me.

Search around the internet- I'm sure someone has done washability comparisons on the various brands. I know I'd seen one several years ago and it must have been updated. Please let us know how it works out?
