For all those who have asked, the following are the directions for the Cathedral Window Ornament. The directions were adapted from the directions for the quilt. I hope you all can follow them.

Thank you!! I love these ornaments.

If you make any, please post a picture. I would love to see what someone else uses for fabric, etc. Everyone looks different.

Thanks for posting the instructions! I am going to attempt to make a "special" ornament for my husband and each of my kids using this pattern. Barb C

JudyJo,
I got one of the ornaments made!!! Labor intensive, but I really enjoyed making it. At first, I didn't understand the instructions because of my preconceived notion of how it should be, but as soon as I let go of that and started paying attention to what you said, a lightbulb clicked on  and I got it. I don't have a camera to take a picture. I made it in green and white holly prints, then realized the green wouldn't show up in a tree, so I will hang it in my window. The next one will be bright colored. Thanks a million. |
Hi Norah...I too had trouble with it at first because of preconceived ideas as to how it should go. I've been thinking about your question about using synthetic fabrics and the possibility of raveling. Instead of cutting the squares 71/2" and turning under the raw edges 1/4"....what if you cut the squares 8" and turn under the raw edges 1/2" before overcasting the edges together. Once you have those turned under edges sewn together there are no raw edges left. It would be worth a try especially if you have some scraps of the synthetic fabric left from another project.

Good idea about the larger seam. There are so many pretty, rich looking synthetics that would make gorgeous ornaments. The fabric could move them from homey and nostalgic to classy or elegant. I have some beautiful silks and brocades and such that could work, but I will have to save that for next year. The fabric is buried in my sewing room somewhere. We'll see how it works. Thank you.

Geez, I still haven't gotten around to making this...maybe tonight while I'm watching tv!

GeeGee, the picture of your DGS just warms my heart. I haven't been around a baby in way too long. Makes me want to reach in and hold him.
