I would really like to make the Cathedral Window as Eddie presented instructions for on Feb 1, 2010. The title of his tut is "Machine Stitched Cathedral Window Tutorial" and his is done in batiks. His instructions are clear and precise but does anyone know what the fabric requirements might be?

About page 15, Eddie did some math on fabric requirements. There may be more on a different page.

Your background or main fabric takes at least 4 times the size you want plus a little extra for the seam allowances. For example: you start with an 8 inch square. you sew your 1/4 inch seams which takes off 1/2 inch. The block is folded again which would make the finished squares 3 3/4 inches. Seems like a lot of fabric and yes it is but you don't need batting or a backing sheet.

I am doing a quilt with his tute. Mine is going to be 90 by 90. I started with 26 yards of background fabrics and my "windows" are cut from fat quarters. I started with 25 different fat quarters and I seem to have enough. It is a lot of fabric but I love the way it is turning out.
