It wouldn't be a sewing area/room without at least one cat, kid or spouse "helping" me. LOL It like it because I sew a lot on my days off and I can still talk to everyone and spend time with them AND quilt at the same time. WIN WIN for us.

I may not be in the majority but since my cats like to eat thread I prefer to keep them safe and keep my sewing in a seperate room with a door to close[/quote] I quite understand! Not meaning to criticize. I just noticed when I joined how many members had cats in their avatar pictures![/quot well it looks like we quilters are animal lovers (that is not a bad thing) and I think a little fur goes with everything my 2 babies love to examine and lay on the quilts I finish |

You have to protect them. It never occurred to me that a pet would eat yarn or thread since it had never happened with ours. We sure were lucky. |

My sewing room door never gets closed except when we have company. Neighbors don't count as company. We have only one cat. We got him from the animal shelter when he was about 1 1/2 years old. If I ever shut the door when I was in there, I'm sure he'd sit outside the door and cry until he got let in. He likes the sewing room because there is a tree right outside the window. He likes to watch the squirrels and birds. At five years old, he rarely bothers my thread. He used to try to catch the needle when I sewed. Now, the only problem is wanting to lie on a quilt when I'm quilting it. All my quilting is done on the machine.

I keep a clear plastic bag taped to the table where my sewing machine is to keep all the threads I cut, etc. in. However, the cat is always on the table or nearby when I sew. He could put his paw into the bag to get the threads. I am careful about the pins also. The magnetic pin cushion waved over the area where sewing takes place is a good idea to get the pins which have fallen. I do find pins on the floor under my desk/table where I sew. Thanks for the info on the threads being dangerous to cats.

Threads, yarns, and ribbons aren't the only things that can cause "hiney" problems! My cat Molly "produced" a gold chain one day. Thankfully, there were no repercussions but all my jewelry (mostly fake! :-) ) now goes directly into a jewelry case!

Pretty MC's. I have always wanted a Main Coon. My friend, Pat, had one years ago. She said her baby got up to 23 lbs. and was just a sweet cat. Annie, my little gray kitty, loves in when I'm in the sewing room. yesterday she slept in one of the binds of fabric.

Thanks, sewjoyce. Rocky would just love you! he will push his head up under your hand so you will rub his head. if you stop he head butts you! he has always done this . OBTW, he weighs about 20# and likes to sit on my chest when i'm trying to watch tv. the kitties in your avatar are really cute too, sewjoyce. do they do the lick, lick, bite routine too?

I recently made a table runner that was full of fur from my kitties despuite my best efforts to defur it. Told the receipient the fur was just an added benefit and free to boot. She was not amused!!! Some people just don't get it. She did, however, love the runner and the fabrics I had chosen for it. Some were even from my stash. :)

The photos of all the kitties are adorable. I did cringe a bit at the one in the washer. Now that would be a bad place to loose kitty! :shock: I love the gray MC. Makes me wish I could have a cat, but allergies are horrid and I can't handle being around them. Sadly, I gave my allergies to my oldest daughter and my grandson. (I blame my grandfather, who gave it to me!)

Ladybugnana, i love the pictures of your kitties. are they all current? they must keep you very busy. the one with the computer is funny-they don't understand why they cant get the balls, do they?
