It wouldn't be a sewing area/room without at least one cat, kid or spouse "helping" me. LOL It like it because I sew a lot on my days off and I can still talk to everyone and spend time with them AND quilt at the same time. WIN WIN for us.

Good, love to see it! I'm having fun appliqueing it and have little shiny black beads for the mouse eyes. Will also post when I finish. Don't know if I could handle doing the whole quilt! Good idea with the dogs in there!

I may not be in the majority but since my cats like to eat thread I prefer to keep them safe and keep my sewing in a seperate room with a door to close[/quote]

I quite understand! Not meaning to criticize. I just noticed when I joined how many members had cats in their avatar pictures![/quot

well it looks like we quilters are animal lovers (that is not a bad thing) and I think a little fur goes with everything my 2 babies love to examine and lay on the quilts I finish

I agree totally with you on that and on fragrances and smoke as well. I live in an allergy free home and love it but this last round robin I joined evidently had 2 members who use a lot of scent in their homes. One was so scented I really had a hard time working with it and I aired it out for several days before going near it. I know it's not from the person who preceded me and suspect it came from the originators house. Some use so much fragrances in their homes that we can smell them from the road when we drive by in our golf cart and their sliding doors and windows are open - that's strong. I like a home that smells fresh and clean but some of these potpourri fragrances just don't work and they will travel in packages as well.

Yes the thread and small scraps are very dangerous. One night my husband noticed my cat eating a small piece of yarn. He couldn't catch the cat before he ate it. The next day my cat was acting funny, hiding, wouldn't eat, etc.

I called the vet for an appointment and sure enough, my little mokie had an intestinal obstruction. He told me he wouldn't live long if he wasn't operated on. After the surgery and $500.00 later, my cat is fine. The vet gave me a plastic baggy and showed me the yarn he had eaten. It was over a yard long.

Every time I sew I am careful of what he can see and possibly eat.

Even if there is a little thread on the floor, he seems to have radar for it. It is very dangerous! But if I have a WIP he will find a way to lay on it.

Poor little thing. I'm amazed that never happened with our kitty. Maybe back then I didn't have as many threads or yarn on the floor as I tend to have now. Sometimes I have threads all over me and have no clue why when never before.

Just curious.

Sybil

My daughter has family members highly allergic to cats so every quilt I give her is machine washed and promptly delivered. She then pops it into the washer and washes it again in her soap to be sure there isn't anything in there that will bother her kids. Yes, they definitely should know if there is an animal in the home and even a smoker as smoke is nasty for some of us.

If my kitty or any pet ate threads, I'd keep them out of the room too. You have to protect them. It never occurred to me that a pet would eat yarn or thread since it had never happened with ours. We sure were lucky.

I've never had one take thread off the machine, but maybe I'd better watch my dining room table where I have my Pfaff Grand Quilter set up for a large quilt project. You gotta love em, but they sure are curious!

You need to quilt this..... Applique not quite finished, but cute!

Oh - it's so adorable. Keep up the good work.

My sewing room door never gets closed except when we have company. Neighbors don't count as company. We have only one cat. We got him from the animal shelter when he was about 1 1/2 years old. If I ever shut the door when I was in there, I'm sure he'd sit outside the door and cry until he got let in. He likes the sewing room because there is a tree right outside the window. He likes to watch the squirrels and birds. At five years old, he rarely bothers my thread. He used to try to catch the needle when I sewed. Now, the only problem is wanting to lie on a quilt when I'm quilting it. All my quilting is done on the machine.
