Cecily Mary Barker Fairy Panel
2 Attachment(s)
I finally had time to turn my thoughts to this panel. After I cut off all the frufru, I added a fat quarter of green batik and then another of red interspersed with an off black edging. It is now up to 54"x40" I'm not sure if this is big enough so I've included a possible additional border. Thoughts Ladies and Gents?

OH yes, to the last border. Looks great and with that border it will be a very good size.
Totally agree. It's beautiful!!

It looks super with the new borders! If you need it bigger than the fabric you have there is a good choice.
You have made this panel look elegant!! Love the last border it is perfect!!!
Lovely paisley fabric, MK.. How much bigger do you want it? IMHO, if you add the border it should be wider than the red border for 2 reasons--visual balance as well as showcasing the overall pattern of the paisley.
I love those fairy panels and love what you've done with this one! Love the green batik but not so much the black/grey paisley....print seems too big and distracts from the panel. not sure what else to suggest tho.
As I recall, this was going to go to a child? For that purpose, I didn't like the original fru-fru, so I'm glad you removed it, but it's like the ornate border is putting it back on. I personally like photo 1 and would leave it. The 54X40 size is just fine.
Now if you've changed your mind and it will go to an adult to be used as part of their Christmas décor, then I'd add the last border. The fabric is gorgeous, but to my mind, not for a kid. |
i love that last border fabric

The original Frufru was narrow and consisted of 2 additional colours. It was only about an inch but it was just all wrong.
Yes this is a rather formal paisley but it's what I have in my stash. I will take another look. |
It is just awesome.
I like the additional border. Very pretty!
Oh MaryKatherine I love your fairy quilt. Love the last border as well. Makes it very elegant. :)
I agree YES to the additional border. It has a Victorian feel...and so does the fairy print....IMHO.
Beautiful ,
Very pretty panel, Love what you have done in the 1st picture. I don't think the dark paisley border does anything for it at all. A different print would be better in my opinion.

I don't care for the paisley either, I think it distracts from the panel itself. I love the rest of it tho
Do not like the last border, seems clash with the rest.
I agree with oksewglad and paperprincess. Will you be doing some of your thread painting on this quilt? Would love to see this when you've finished.
Beautiful choices. Not a panel fan but you did well. I like the last border. It draws the eye out to the full expanse of the piece.
The last border makes it pop!
Well just to put everyone's mind at rest, I decided not to use the paisley. It was just too busy. I also intend to "draw " fairies in the borders and cameo them with something fancy. With that in mind the paisley was a waste of time and would detract from the quilting. So I dove in today, with luck and a strong back it should be done this weekend. I'll let you know.
Just striking including the addition.
Last border looks nice.
She's gorgeous - I love the fairies.
I love that panel!! It will make a great wall hanging as is. But, if you want to turn it into a lap quilt or bed quilt, maybe a border of 4 patches then another solid border and then a piano key border followed by another solid border. Go for it!!

Looking forward to seeing how this goes...some of us cannot just draw in a few fairies and will watch from the sidelines:) |
