I need some advice from someone wiser that I am. I would love to do a Celtic Quilt , HOWEVER, you need to know how to make the narrow bias tape FIRST. I bought the 1/4" Clover fusible bias tape maker and I have watched the DVD over and over again but this quilter isn't able to master this. Does anyone out there use this bias tape maker or do you know of a better way??? I am doing a pieced quilt and have all the blocks finished . I thought I might try putting a bias vine and flowers on the border. I can't even make enough continuous bias to do that. HELP!

fusible? i know how to make the bias, but fusible is not in the equation. I can see it's use for tacking.

I have the bias maker - I cut my strips at a scant 3/4" (my maker is mertic so acomes up a good 1/4") on the bias of the fabric, trim one end to a point and poke it through the slot in the bias tape maker, pull through a good inch and put a metal pin through the end into the ironing board. Then gently pulling on the bias tape maker with my left hand, I press the bias that's emerging with the iron held in my right hand. Is this clearer than mud? I don't know the dvd you're referring to, I'm afraid. :-D

Buy the premade iron on bias tape. It comes in a variety of colors and widths. It's made by clover.

Love o make bias and it is easy with the one taht puts the steam a sea on it as you iron it. It is different than the regular bias maker. It is very easy and a tip. First wash the fabric to remove all sizing and iron. the fold and cut bias strips. and ther is another slot for the SAS to go through. Ther are some colors in the market you can buy but do not always match or accent what you wnat. The fabric you are making your own bias with will also be of better quality most likely too. I used to buy many many years ago the bias and it faded, ruppled and all sorts of problemd but never once since I make mu own bias and piping... I use so many yars of piping it would cost a fortune and whold never match my items. I found a wonderful gold print a few year back and made yards of piping, and I still have a few yards. It was 9.00 a yard fab so it is top quality. but out of that yard I mad many dollors of piping... if you need to ask any more questions feel free to PM me Connie F |
I believe its Clover that makes a bias maker that as you feed your material through you can also pull through (for lack of a better term) fusible. The one side sticks to the material as both are pulled through together. I think I saw it at JoAnns.

I use bias bars to make mine. I've never done them any other way so I don't know if it's easier or not.
