"Chain" sewing of large square patches...

Hello,

I am still pretty new to sewing and recently the owner of the Bernina shoppe here showed me how to "chain" sew my square patches together for some square patch projects of mine...Will this type of sewing be difficult with larger squares (9"x9")? Wondering...What are your thoughts?

Thank you,

Karen

Not harder at all.

It shouldn't be. Just remember to provide support for the chain behind the machine. i.e., try not to let it fall off the back end of your table which can pull and distort those squares passing under the needle.

I have never had a problem with any size that I am sewing, and over time, it saves on thread.

I chain sew everything I can. From teeny tiny little half squares to large FQ's for backing. Saves time and thread

Love mindless chain piecing no matter the size.

I chain sew width of fabric strips - it doesn't matter how big it is. The only change I make for really big/heavy projects is to stop and cut them apart after I've sewn about 6 inches into the next piece.

I aLos chain sew anything I can regardless of size. Saves time and thread.

I always chain sew if I can....but..... I always do a practice block with scraps to make sure I understand the pattern and am cutting correctly before I start chain sewing....chain sewing lots of pieces wrong is VERY annoying....makes me say bad words!

Me, too. Chaining makes everything go faster! And saves thread!
