Mary did you get my PM? I just got an email from the person selling the machine.

the 15 is a great machine - the feed dogs drop (for free motion quilting) - at least on the 15 I have (a 15-90)

I piece on a 301, just picked up a 319w that I love already - it was desperate for a good oil bath but now runs like a trouper - it came with ALL the cams, the book, the feet a cabinet, the bench - for a whopping $25!

make sure the bobbin case is there - the 15 I got didn't have one and SOME of the 15s take a different case - not hard to find or buy but a pain to track down...
you can join some of the yahoo vintage singer lists for parts, info, help, etc if you get the machine...

it's also fair to warn you that once you start you'll discover a whole new hobby....

JJs thanks for the information about the feed dogs dropping for quilting I still need to find out what 15 model it is. when checking out the machine how would I be able to tell if the feed dogs drop? And wowzers on your collection! Amazing!

there's a screw when you tilt the machine back - might be right in the middle somewhere (it's by the bobbin case on the 301s) but on the 319 and possibly the 15 it's apprx in the middle of the bottom - just a big screw turns to the left to lower, tightens to raise back up....

I'm not sure if all 15s have the lowering feeds
but here's the book:
parts.singerco.com/IPinstManuals/15.pdf

if the price is reasonable - (cheap) grab the machine no matter what LOL

JJs I am working on it. The lady got back with me and 2 others are trying to bargain with her on it. I am trying to stick my foot in there...lol wish me luck! Thanks for the link.

There is a man on this quilt site that only uses treadle machines and repairs them. I think it he is lostn51 or something close to that - look for him. He may know something about these machines also.

It's great for paper piecing as the stitch length can be adjusted to teeny tiny.

~shrug~ Depending on what they want for it, I'd buy it for the cabinet and bench if nothing else! ;)

I do love the old Singers...and when things clear up for me a bit, intend to start collecting! :)

I haven't gotten into paper piecing but it's good to know they will work for that. Haven't heard back from the lady yet. So was probably just a dream but it was a fun one. lol And I learned so much from asking Thanks everyone.
Jingle Berry - Yes I have read about Lostn51 and his experience with sewing machines.
