I found a Bargello quilt I want to make for a friend who loves Blues and Yellows. Since the size of the quilt was written below the picture in a Bargello book I bought, I figured that the strips were cut 2.5" I bought 12 inches of the fabric but I would feel more comfortable cutting the strips 2.25 inches wide instead just in case I made a mistake (being disable, one has the tendency to make TOO MANY mistakes). So has anybody ever changed the width they cut the strips for a Bargello quilt and then did you change the width of the cuts from the strips?? I tried putting it on EQ5 but I couldn't fit the quilt because of the restraint on the number of strips. THANKS !!!

Changing the strip width when cutting the strips prior to sewing the stip sets will make a quilt longer. Changing the width of the cutting of the sewn strip sets makes the quilt wider. For every 1/4 inch you add you gain 1/2 inch , so count the seams and multiply by .5 . that is the total number of inches. This works in reverse as well.
If you want to increase/or decrease the total size both dimensions , both the unsewn strips cutting and the sewn strip sets needs to be modified .

Your quilt, your rules. Of course you can change it. Since you want to reduce the strips to 2.25 which is by 10%, I would reduce the width of the other cuts by 10% also. Everything stays in proportion.
