Characters in quilting....to sell.

Obviously if I copy of an image of a cartoon character say, Scooby Doo for example, I can create the image and give it as a gift. But would I be able to sell the quilt for profit? Just curious.

Thanks!

I would not think so. Particularly if it is a Disney one.

It's not even permitted to copy it and use it as a gift or for personal use. Sorry.

Copying it would be illegal~~

And Disney has a reputation for going after people for even small runs of items.

I know that you can't advertise that you are selling "Barbie Doll dress". You have to say "Fashion Doll dress"

An identifiable character, like Scooby Doo, Nike, any NFL sports team, etc., probably falls under not only copyright but licensing and trademark regulations.

I believe you would need a license - here is how to go about it with Disney: https://www.disneyconsumerproducts.c...false&region=0

Please be careful. At my school, we showed a free Disney movie and had goodies for sale for the parent teacher club, and believe it or not, we had the "Disney police" show up and revoke all of our rights to even use their movies.
Mixed feelings....but it is what it is......

Nah it wasn't for Disney. But thanks for answering the question. I figured the answer would be "not unless you want to get sued." Ha what about selling quilts using Disney themed fabric? Or NFL, MLB, NBA themed fabric. You can't sell those either? I'm working on projects to open my own online quilt shop on artfire.com.

I thought about making a quilt for a friend that will have a Japanese cartoon character from one her favorite movies. It would be a gift.

So difficult but I can't imagine that I'm buying very correctly in a licensed store some disneyfabrics ( or any other mark) and then can't make a quilt or pyama's to give to my neighbours little girl as a gift?
why buy fabrics then?
