No one would WANT my hand quilting. LOL

I have also been asked by "people" who have seen some of my quilts-queen size - casually saying, "oh-will you make me one?" like asking you to bake a batch of cookies or something. I mean, they don't have a clue how much time goes into hand-quilting. And that is after all the time cutting and piecing! When you tell them they take about 800 hours to make and if I charged just $1.00 per hour (which includes the fabric), it would make it $800.00. That shuts them up pretty quick and they head to Sears for a $39.99 special!

I did hand quilting for hire several years ago and I charged 1 Euro per meter of thread. I think is comparable to the price the Amish charge on the above mentioned website. I don't do that anymore because I am too busy with my own stuff and because people don't want to pay that amount for my hand quilting. Of course they don't have a clue about how much work it is. It was hard to quilt some of the quilts because low quality fabrics and very thick battings were used sometimes.

i charge $20 to do a binding...i only do the bindings for a couple customers who have arthritis and are just unable, but they also, love to quilt but are on fixed incomes...i do not mind doing the binds so i simply charge them $20. when i was first called and asked about doing the bindings my first lady told me she called the lady who was long-arm quilting her quilt and asked what she would charge to put the binding on (she makes the binding, i machine stitch it to one side, fold over and hand stitch) the quilter told her $150 .... it was a twin size quilt... so obviously binding is not something that quilter likes to do...i was stunned to hear that price and told the customer i would do it for $20...did not matter if someone else did the quilting...so i have stuck with that $20 what ever the size...hand quilting around here there are ladies charging 2 1/2 cents a square inch (measure length x width for the # of square inches)

They get what they pay for....stitches too big "toe catchers" and that fall apart after washing a few times. To say nothing about enabling the slave labor!

Ditto here. No one would want to wait for the turn around time either! I am really slow. It usually takes me more then a year to handquilt a queen size quilt. Even if I devoted all my time to it (which I wouldn't!) it would still take me a long time.

I love to hand quilt but no amount of money could get me to do it for hire :D:D

I can never keep my mouth shut if I see someone buying or looking at one of those cheapies---ALWAYS have to tell them it was most likely made by slave labor and quilted by a 4 or 5 year old child working 14 hours a day!

My Amish friends charge 2.5 to 4.5 cents per square inch--depending on the complexity of the pattern.
we have a church group near here that does them for around $300--but they are usually backed up....

I quilt w/ 2 different church groups. The one i quilt w/ in the summer i think does a better job and the avg is about $300- $400.

The other one charges by the foot of thread, so much to bind it, etc...They do mainly stitch in the ditch and i don't think it is as pretty and the women don't stitch as nice as the ladies that i quilt w/ during the summers. jmho
