When you're making charity quilts for young kids what size to make your quilts? Some of the patterns for toddlers/pre schoolers seem rather large or is it just me...

Depends on the charity, they will usually give you size suggestions.

The maximum size that I make is 44x 60. Usually they are 40x 50. Hope this helps.

These are for homeless shelters, fire & police depts., etc. as donations not thru and organized group so there are no real requirments...

Quilts for Kids has the patterns on their website to download and the dimensions they want. I notice most others do too. Just follow the instructions for the charity you are sewing for.

I make many kid quilts for my guild's Giving Closet. I find 36 x 46 a good size. The 36" width makes it possible to use a length of fabric for the backing, no wasting time piecing backing because it the width of the quilt is wider than the WOF.

I make toddler size quilts to be 40-45 x 60-65. This is a perfect size for a toddler bed, and big enough for an older child to snuggle in, as well, even though it would be too small for their bed. This is also the minimum size I would make a lap quilt for an adult (and the one adult I made one for in this size was my *ahem* "vertically challenged" grandmother ;) ).

Deema, Your vertically challenged grandmother and I must be the same height. :roll: I really appreciate all of you that have been so helpful. I'm new at doing quilts for the homeless and the children that have just experienced family crisis. They have no required sizes they just appreciate having quilts to give to the kids.
