When I make charity quilts I use my stash and sometimes stash from a community quilts group I belong to.

I just bought 30 yards of coordinating fabrics to make charity quilts with. I can't seem to use my stash, because I have it designated to be in some other quilt. I got a couple of Downy quilts and saw how little it took to make them, so figured the yardage and bought enough to make 21 charity quilts.Only one of the main prints is strictly girl, the others are gender neutral.

I use out of my stash as well as "must haves" I find while shopping :D:D:D
I make all kinds of quilts, whatever pattern as the mood strikes  :D:D:D

It depends on what inspires me. Sometimes I'll make a Project Linus out of leftover baby fabrics, but sometimes I'll see just the cutest nursery print at a fabric shop and an idea will pop into my head. Also, the Wounded Warriors quilts are "born" in the same way. I did go shopping specifically for fabrics for a quilt for our local zoo and Desert Museum silent auction fundraisers. It really depends on my mood and the charity occasion!

If it is nice enough for a friend or family member as a gift, I will donate it to Charity. I use from my stash as well as shop for fabric. I look at it that if it has my name attached in any way, I want it to look as nice as possible. Scrappy quilts can be just stunning.

I make about 1 quilt a month for Project Linus--usually about 50x60--the big kids love quilts too! Sew mostly from stash and donated fabs. For backs I piece in lots of colors. One lady suggested cutting up 10-1/2" squares with leftovers and then when ready to make back, assembly them in rows. They are easy to measure as each dquare is 10" finished. I'm going to try that idea on next back I need.

I always use what I have.

I use scraps from my collection, I have made over 18 queen size scrappy 5 1/2 blocks sewn in rows. Sometimes I don't use very pretty backs but these giveaways are for people that have lost everything in a house fire or a storm. They really appreciate them and they are designed for warmth nothing else.

We get lots of fabric donated to our church quilt group so I always have some of that at home to work on. What I like best is that all I have to do at home is the top. It is sandwiched and tied by all the ladies.

I make charity quilts for a guild to which I belong. The only thing we have to provide is thread. I agree with one of the comments on this thread to make a quilt you'd give to a grandchild. I think the standard should be higher for gift quilts than for quilts you plan to keep for yourself.
