Charm Pack Question
 

Hello! I have a question about creating charm packs. I have A LOT of organic material, and wanted to create charm pack combinations to sell, possibly at craft fairs. Do all charm packs HAVE to be a consistent collection? Could they be fabrics from different designers but coordinate nicely? I thought it would be fun and interesting to mix things up a bit. Thank you in advance for your input :).

Yes, usually they are from a specific collections. You might check on eBay because I am certain there are some sellers selling their own charms. Most quilters I know who buy charms want the fabrics to coordinate. That is why they pay more (per square inch) to not have to try to select individual fabrics. I always do my research before attempting anything to do with commerce. Good Luck.

It could be fun to create your own as you suggest - but sew them together like a quilt top for display so that potential buyers could see how it all looks together. - come up with an original name for the "packs" and collections.

If you go to Etsy, and search on 'fabric charm packs' both commercial and custom packs come up. This should give you a good idea of the number of fabrics to include and pricing.
You can also check ebay. I usually look at the sold transactions to see what stuff actually sold for.

The only charm packs I have bought were from all different collections. One was a Christmas theme, and one was whites/offwhites. If Keepsake can sell them like that, so can you.

Coordinated charm packs would be wonderful! I purchased at a show a jelly roll that had been made by one vendor. It had batiks, one of each color in a rainbow like effect. I made a jelly roll race and it turned out great! I know right now, I would love to go to the LQS and purchase a red, white and blue pack with variety. What I look for in a prepackaged set are fabrics that I can enhance by adding a simple white or bone fabric. I stay away from packs that have too much white.
