At my LQS' Weds Bee, one of the gals showed us how to make a cheater pineapple block. It's so ridiculously simple, and now I can't wait to make one. The way it works is:
Take 2 squares (any size) and sew completely around their perimeter Draw 2 diagonal lines on the non-one you want to be in the center from sewn corner to corner. Take your scissors and cut along both lines for ONLY the non-center fabric. So now you have a full square on the bottom and 4 little triangles attached on the outside but loose in the center. Press open It resembles a square in a square. But if you use it for S in a S, you lose the points. Pineapple it doesn't matter. So then you measure your new unit, get a new square that is the same size, and repeat, cutting your new square and leaving the first 2 alone. And you just keep going and the pineapple appears! It's so awesome! I can't wait to make one! |
huh? need a picture, please, it sounds pretty.

Does anyone have a visual for this pattern. I mean the actual fabric, etc. Sounds great. Thanks

Could you post a photo Tut for us. I'm very interested.

Wow, that sounds awesome ... I can't wait to try it too!

Reading carefully greatly contributes to understanding  The first time I read it, I read sew on the diagonal lines, then cut, and I just couldn't figure out how that was going to work. So I re-read, just like we teach kids to do, and it all makes sense. Sounds like a great way to use up some various size fabrics :!:

Yep, I'm a visual learner too...need pics to help! Love the pineapple block tho!

both squares the same size or any size for each square? Sew around each block separately? Or sew blocks together with wrong side facing or right sides facing? Draw 2 diagonal lines on the non-one you want to be in the center from sewn corner to corner... 2 lines forming a X through the block? Take your scissors and cut along both lines for ONLY the non-center fabric. So now you have a full square on the bottom and 4 little triangles attached on the outside but loose in the center. Press open.... I'm completely confused without a picture... |
Bonnie Hunter also has a 'cheater' pineapple block/quilt and scrappy. Called Pineapple Blossom.

What you are describing sounds like the block I learned from Karin Hellaby's publication "Sew Simple Pineapple."
Here are the websites you can visit to learn more about her and the methods she developed: www.karinhellaby.com www.quiltershavenpublications.com www. quilters-haven.co.uk www.blog.quilters-haven.co.uk Her methods are really fun, quick and easy. Enjoy:-D |
