You can use counted cross stitch designs for chicken scratch, they work up nice and will be bigger when done on gingham. My mother did so many aprons with chicken scratch and I did a few, the designs look like cross stitch but in one color.

You can find patterns and books for Chicken Scratch on Ebay, I would just make them up as blocks and then use the blocks to construct a quilt. You can also just do a border design on strips and use those as sashing or borders.
Here's some sites for free patterns: http://crossstitch.about.com/od/chic...tch-Square.htm http://kindawonderful.typepad.com/pi...tch-guide.html http://www.needlepointers.com/ShowAr...aspx?NavID=677 http://www.needlenthread.com/2007/06...n-gingham.html |
I do remember those, but didn' know the CC patterns could be used............daa............calla

You get best results if you use fabric that has exact squares. I used gingham once and the pattern came out elongated. I made framed wallhangings many years ago. Such an impressive technique.

Beautiful, but can not understand the meaning unless it is something to incoporate into a quilt.
