Just come in on this thread - great idea, I've got some chook fabric in my stash already, will post a pic later. I keep chooks so this one's great for me!

sandpat 02-09-2009 06:02 AM

Annie, thanks! Those are cute. I haven't gotten started yet...I know...I need to get my butt in gear!

Mary L 02-09-2009 07:33 AM

I'm working on "garden party " hope to be done quilting it soon !

Susan in Texas 02-27-2009 10:34 AM

Mary, How is your garden party chicken quilt going? I hope you will post it so we can see it. :D

Mary L 03-02-2009 12:31 PM

Susan I have gotten distracted once again. We had a new baby come into the family and I'm working on an Alpha bear wall hanging.
There's always so much to do and so little energy and time to do it all.
I'll post a pic soon. Even if it isn't complete .

mamatobugboo 03-19-2009 12:51 PM

Things are finely starting to slow down a little bit here with hockey ending this weekend, so am reviving the idea for a very relaxed chicken quilt challenge...anyone still interested??

sandpat 03-19-2009 01:01 PM

Yes I am!!! It seems that I need the challenge to make me get in gear!! I just bought lots of cute cute fabrics and I need to get started! I definetly want to be included!!! What are we gonna do???

k3n 03-19-2009 01:05 PM

I'm still in!

K x

tlrnhi 03-19-2009 06:38 PM

I'm thinking about it....got more info?

sandpat 03-19-2009 06:52 PM

Oh come on Terri...just commit! What are ya'....chicken????

mamatobugboo 03-20-2009 06:16 AM

LOL patti!

I have no real details yet. I am finishing up the IRR block to pass on to Mary plus slide show for my DD's hockey party on Sunday then next week is spending with my DD while she recovers from her surgery on Monday...so hopefully I will get to it later next week.

My initial thought is to make it relaxed as possible - any technigue, with no minimum size (howz that for easy!) - so if I want to make a 24 in wall hanging from a panel I can, but if I want to hand applique a king size quilt with 100 chickens, I can do that to (although I never would!).

Long time frame too...Maybe once a month post our progress and then maybe have a viewer's choice vote in September with a prize for the "best" one?? Maybe each person make an extra block, send to me and the winner of the viewer's choice would get those blocks as a prize... Votes would come to me through pm....

just some thoughts!

k3n 03-20-2009 07:15 AM

Sounds nice and laid back - good for me!

K x

tlrnhi 03-20-2009 07:31 AM

LOL PATTI!!!!!

Ok, I'm in....since we will have some time to do this, then I'll be able to find chicken fabric. I did see 2 pieces at Ben Franklin. One was pretty, the other one was pretty UGLY! lol

I'm also comtemplating on buying this kit. Connie started showing hers with the flowers and I was just perusing Felinedrive.com and came across this..... http://www.felinedrive.com/servlet/t...omplete/Detail
Hubby says I can buy it. I did ask him .... it's a bit pricey and since he said yes, then I do have the go ahead if I really want it. I usually don't ask, but with something that expensive.....well, you know. And like he was going to tell me no. lol

mamatobugboo 03-20-2009 09:03 AM

Terri, that is gorgeous! Hey, if you can sew it, buy it!!

quiltsRfun 03-20-2009 09:11 AM

I got all my fabric and have the pattern in mind, but haven't started. Sounds like it's time to get serious about this.

sandpat 03-20-2009 03:12 PM

Steph, that does sound pretty relaxed and right up my alley. I've still got 2 IRR groups going, another project for a friend...thinking about Elle's flower block swap and a couple of quilts that I had planned for myself..so will you start a new thread when you get ready to start the challenge?

Terri...I'm glad you are throwing your hat in the "chicken" ring. I peeked at the watercolor cat quilt...hmmm...I've looked at that before myself. I think its a little above my skill set right now so I do hope you get it and have a blast with it! I know it will turn out beautifully!!

mamatobugboo 03-20-2009 06:11 PM

Patti, yup, I'll start a new thread when I get it worked out and ready to commit to it! Like you I have (only) 1 IRR quilt going plus the flower block exchange with Elle, my DH's quilt, a charity quilt for a maternity home silent auction and finish putting together my quilt frame...so relaxed is about all I can do at the moment!!

k3n 04-02-2009 11:46 PM

hello chicken girls!

I just found these patterns via a link from Pennyswings dresden heart pattern: http://www.fatcatpatterns.com/chickens.htm

Thought it was a good reason to BUMP!!! Cluck, cluck! :D

K x

mamatobugboo 04-03-2009 04:24 AM

it is a great reason to bump, THANKS!!!

I head to Alabama today for Spring Break - the kids will play in the woods all week while I am a lizard soaking up the warmth of the sun and planning the golf league AND the chicken quilt challenge!

I will start a new thread in the next 5 days so be on the lookout!

Happy Easter everyone!

sandpat 04-03-2009 04:30 AM

Hey Steph...can you let us know on this thread when you post the new one? I am getting the update notice for this thread, but I might miss the new thread going up...you know..the weather is nice....I have some actual sewing to do....occasionally I find things to do that don't involve the puter... Anyway..thanks!

Patti

tlrnhi 04-03-2009 04:40 AM

Ok...I was just thinking about this the other day and wondering what was going on. I'm still in. I did see some chicken fabric at Ben Franklins, but it was more or less something you would use as curtains. Wouldn't really use it in a quilt. So, with that said...it might take me a bit longer to do mine since I will have to order chicken fabric online.

K...that is a GREAT site! I'm going to print ALL those patterns! If I don't, I"ll lose them, or they'll end up coming off the site and then I'll have to pay for them. They are too cute to lose!

sandpat 04-03-2009 05:12 AM

Glad you are in Terri....check out Bearpaw for a pretty great selection of on-line chicken fabric. I hit them a few weeks ago and it was reasonable, great quality and really fast shipping!

tlrnhi 04-03-2009 05:13 AM

COOL!
I'll have to rely on you ladies to help me out in finding what I need. :)

mamatobugboo 04-03-2009 05:27 AM

I had planned on it - thanks for reminding me! Enjoy your warm weather!

I went to Ben Franklin's today. Found 3 pieces of fabric with chickens/roosters on it. ALL they had!

So, now, let's get details going on this, huh???

Terri, you are just about covered in chicken fabric - get crackin' girl!!! :D

I think I'll start with an appliqué rooster as a centre piece and go from there - might do him stained glass, not sure yet. But at least an idea is starting to ferment! :D

Stained glass? No one said anything about stained glass! UGH! You trying to out do us? lol

k3n 04-08-2009 07:10 AM

tee hee!!! No, but I really like doing the one for butterflywing and I've got the little device for making bias and some black fabric left over, it's not THAT hard, I KNOW you could do it, Terri!!!

Oh, like you think I'm going to say I'll make one? Nope! Got myself into doing this chicken quilt. Silly me! WHAT WAS I THINKING?? lol

k3n 04-08-2009 07:46 AM

Not even sure I'll do it to be honest - might just do regular appliqué - been looking at rooster patterns and can't really find a good one for stained glass.

K x

sandpat 04-08-2009 04:12 PM

Oh no....not fair trying to make this a competion.....you know I can't possibly outdo anyone!!!! And I haven't even started to decide which will be my 1st block!!!EEEEKKKKKK!!! Am I behind already???

No, you are ahead of me. I haven't decided yet. lol

k3n 04-08-2009 11:04 PM

Don't worry Patti, it's not a competition - perish the thought! :D

I finally found a rooster I like on stained glass - Hans has photocopied him for me bigger in black and white so I'm going to try and turn him into stained glass but don't hold your breath!

K x

sandpat 04-09-2009 03:58 AM

Well, I can't wait to see him, I just know he'll be beautimous and probably very "cocky"   (sorry...just couldn't help myself!)

Sorry, k, to pick on the differences in 'phrases', depending on where you live...love it, though :P ,...if I wait till an idea, 'ferments'...it means it's rotten!...thinking you like a little wine, maybe fermented ideas are just about - ripe there (right there), for you, LOL!

Patti - cocky is kind of proud, right? Or are you being RUUUUDDDDEEE!!! I think the double entendre is the same in the US as the UK?!

Hey Big Ears - about fermenting - while I was on a tour of a French vineyard, the owner said that grapevines are no good until they're at least 40 years old - like a woman...! Yup, everything they say about the French is true - wine, women and song tra la! :D
